Today we’d like to introduce you to Julio Cesar.
Hi Julio, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began dancing at the age of 20, driven purely by curiosity and a fascination for the art form. From a young age, I was deeply inspired by Michael Jackson—his music videos, his presence, and the way he effortlessly connected with the music through movement. That connection lit a spark in me.
My training started in Mexico City, where I laid the foundation of my dance journey. Over time, my path led me to Los Angeles, where I continued to take classes and immerse myself in the philosophies of world-renowned teachers. I fell in love with the discipline, the mindset, and the culture surrounding dance. With countless hours of training and an insatiable hunger to grow, I pushed myself further with every opportunity.
Eventually, I had the incredible honor of teaching at Millennium Dance Complex—one of the most iconic studios in the world. There, I became the first to introduce Reggaeton as a class, taking immense pride in representing both my Latino roots and our rich cultural heritage. It was a moment of breaking ground, not just for myself, but for the wider community as well.
That platform helped catapult my career, allowing me to collaborate with major artists and gain recognition from international dance communities. I’m grateful for how far this journey has taken me—and I’m equally excited for what’s ahead. I remain committed to growing, learning, and sharing my passion with the industry and beyond.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The journey was far from smooth. Entering such a competitive and demanding industry while trying to introduce a new perspective came with its own set of challenges. I was fortunate to have incredible mentors and people who believed in me—individuals who gave me the opportunity to showcase my talent when it mattered most.
However, being a foreigner in this space can be both a blessing and a challenge. Navigating cultural differences, visa limitations, and financial uncertainty—especially in the early stages—meant constantly investing time, energy, and resources with the hope it would one day pay off.
On top of that, being away from my family during difficult moments added a personal layer of sacrifice. There were times when I had to face emotional hardships alone, but those experiences shaped me and gave me a deeper sense of purpose and resilience.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I began sharing my work by teaching classes at Millennium Dance Complex, which became a springboard for further opportunities. That initial platform opened doors for me to teach at other prestigious studios such as Movement Lifestyle and T.Milly. Through this exposure, I gained recognition and was invited to collaborate on several high-profile projects.
Among the highlights of my career are working with Amazon Music and artists like Ryan Castro—one of the leading voices in reggaeton—and Rich the Kid, a well-established figure in the rap industry. These experiences not only pushed me creatively but also allowed me to bring my cultural perspective to a broader stage.
What I’m most proud of, however, is raising the bar and paving the way for other Latinos and the next generation of artists. Someone had to go first to prove that it’s possible—and I embraced that responsibility with pride and purpose.
What sets me apart is my vision. I don’t follow trends or replicate what’s already been done. Instead, I strive to create my own perspective—one that challenges norms and redefines the space I step into.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
One of my favorite books is Into the Wild. I’ve always been drawn to true stories that explore the raw, simple beauty of life through the eyes of those who choose to see the world differently. There’s something deeply inspiring about people who strip away the noise to find meaning in nature, solitude, and authenticity.
I’m also passionate about language learning and often use apps that help me explore multiple languages. For me, being able to communicate across cultures is not only personally fulfilling—it’s essential to my work. It allows me to connect more deeply with people from around the world and keeps me excited about what I do. Every new word, every new phrase, is another step toward building bridges and broadening my perspective.
