Today we’d like to introduce you to Nina Childs.
Hi Nina, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I got my start in Kindergarten. I was chosen to play the lead in our graduation play because I read the best and I talked the loudest. I know this because I asked my teachers why they picked me,,,I was that kinda kid. After that I caught the theater bug and continued acting in plays through college. I did a few commercials and a few short films as an actress after college before taking a hiatus to figure my stuff out. I wanted to be a mom. So I got married and had my 2 kids. Then I wrote my 1st play in 2014 and made my transition to writing, directing and producing. I self funded, wrote and directed my own projects for 10 years before discovering…or being willing to admit that I hate directing and I really just want to produce and I will write if that is a means to producing, It feels good to be able to say that though and it feels even better to be thriving as a producer after 10 years of grueling work and the support of my closest family and friends.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Life is all good and all bad. It’s just the ebb and flow. I am grateful for all of it though. Grateful that I have been able to learn in real time. Grateful that I have finally figured out what I’m good at and what I want to do. Also grateful that it’s not too late. As long as there is breath in your body it’s not too late.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I have been very blessed the last 2 years to have produced 4 projects. A feature that was shot in Chicago and was definitely top-tier training ground, a Mercedes commercial, and 2 very critical short films that will be released at the top of 2026 and I have more projects in the pipeline. I think I’m most proud of the fact that with all the challenges I have faced in my personal life I’ve stayed down and dirty and the ball is finally rolling uphill.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
I think one of my favorite childhood memories was playing my 4th grade teacher Mrs.Mims. Again, I was just given the part and now that I think about it this was the year she was retiring and this play was being done to pay her homage. This was the time in my life where I realized okay…I’m going to do this forever in some form or facet.
