Inspiring Conversations with Genna Sandler and Maria Melograne of Fur Babes Gourmet Dog Treats & Charcuterie Boards

Today we’d like to introduce you to Genna Sandler and Maria Melograne.

Hi Genna & Maria, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Our business Fur Babes started as a small idea with a love for food and even bigger love for our dogs. It all started after we decided to transition out of a career in Film and TV. The industry was slowing down with the strikes and we were left wondering, “what’s next?”

That’s where Fur Babes was born. At a cafe in Pasadena, over breakfast burritos, a matcha and coffee. We decided to use the skill set we had from our industry days and use it to create something that was our own. That’s what brought us to where we are today.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
For any small business that is just starting, the road rarely feels smooth. We’ve had many bumps in the road but have kept moving forward which as of lately, has resulted in some momentum for us.

We are a two person team that handles everything. We bake, package, design, set up and break down for events, reach out to other small businesses for wholesale and fund everything ourselves. The journey can seem overwhelming at times but we are passionate about what we do so the only way to go is onward.

Maria also lives in Altadena and with the recent fires there were some set backs (losing some of our product and supplies) that halted some of our business at the start of the year. We’re grateful to say that we are back on track and able to continue on with Fur Babes!

As you know, we’re big fans of Fur Babes Gourmet Dog Treats & Charcuterie Boards. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Fur Babes is an all natural, human grade dog treat business. We’re women owned and operated and believe that food is love, so why not share that love with your pups (as they’re part of the family)!

We’re proud of how far we’ve come and the foundation we’ve built. What sets us apart is we don’t just want to create product to buy, we want to give the owner and pups an experience. Something they will remember. We have our doggy charcuterie boards that have a variety of treats as well as seasonal fruits and veggies. We customize to what the owner would like for their fur babe and truly make each board stand out.

We want to have more interaction with our customers and their dogs, either by having pop ups that are interactive, like building your own dog charcuterie board or making boards for both humans and their pups! We want experiences people will remember. Our pets are here for such a short amount of time, so creating memories with, and for them is so important.

What matters most to you?
What matters to us most are the dogs! We each have our own pups and want the best for them, so all the dogs we meet we treat like our own. Our pets bring such joy and unconditional love and that is priceless not just to us, but to every customer we meet. We are so grateful to be a part of so many fur babe families.
