Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaia Lyne.
Jaia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
How I got started? So, I started- in college- I did a filipino pageant. It was called Binibining Pilipinas USA, now known as Miss Philippines USA. I went in with no expectations and ended up winning 2nd place which was the title of Binibining Pilipinas USA Tourism, in 2016. After that, I started modeling and I modeled throughout college- I went to San Diego State University- and I ended up modeling for Victoria’s Secret PINK! Definitely, one of my career highlights. Then, I graduated from college with a B.A. in Philosophy. I was about to do law school, modeling, and acting all at the same time. But, I quickly discovered that that was insane, so I put law school on pause and I decided to go into acting full time. From there, I joined the Howard Fine Acting Studio and I’ve been training with him for 5 years. Along that journey, I got signed. I had a different team, and things just didn’t work out so I found a new team, my current team (managed by ST8RM; represented by Eris Talent Agency). Shortly after signing with ST8RM and Eris Talent Agency, I booked a Guest Star role on Brat TV’s “Together Forever.” After that, I did a short film, “To Be With You,” that just won Best Drama Short at the New York CineFest. We were in a category alongside a USC short that was a George Lucas Scholarship winner, so the win was really unexpected. Now, that same short is going to screen at the LA Shorts International Film Festival, which is super exciting. When I’m not acting, I am a Men’s Assistant at STATE Model Management. And, that’s how I ended up where I am today.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. And, I feel like things are still rocky and shaky. Yeah, definitely a lot of struggles and a lot of self doubt. Ever since I decided to make acting a career, COVID has happened, and then the WGA/SAG-AFTRA strikes happened, and then the LA fires, and now the tariffs and production moving out of LA. There’s just been a lot of external factors that have blocked my road. There are times where it definitely seems like I won’t make it. But, for some reason, every time I decide to quit I end up back to my passion. So, I just keep goin and believe that things will happen for me. I feel like it’s all a mindset. But, I also have other things that I do to not make acting the center of everything. My world is bigger than just acting, which I think very important in an artist’s life.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am an actress, a singer-songwriter, former model, and model’s men’s assistant. I feel like I’ve lived so many lives. Some people know me as Binibining Pilipinas USA Tourism. Some people know me as Jaia Lyne the singer. Some people know me as Jaia Lyne the actress. Some people know me as Jaia Aluning the men’s assistant at STATE LA.
I think… I’m most proud- there have been so many things that have shaped me and where I am today that it’s hard to pick a moment that I’m most proud of. But, I guess, one of em would be doing the Filipino-American pageant because that’s when I realized that my filipino culture is the core of who I am. And, I’ve always ran away from my filipino culture. I was so ashamed of it growing up because I never saw anyone like me and I wanted to be up there. I wished was something different. But when I joined the Filipino-American Pageant, that’s when I was realized, “oh my gosh, being Filipino is f*cking cool,” and now I just want everyone to know that Filipinos are awesome. And, super talented- everyone can sing and dance. It’s crazy. Eeeeveryone can sing.
I’m also proud of making music. I don’t think I’ve mentioned that I have a couple singles out. One’s good and one is whatever, but yeah I’m really proud of writing music because I never thought I was capable of it. I’m working on a few projects right now, and I think those projects are really cool. I’m really looking forward to putting those out because my singles that are out right now-I was just testing the waters. But now I feel like I know- I’m just learning every day and as I grow- I’m just learning different aspects of songwriting and producing. And, I feel as if I’ve developed since putting out my first few songs. So, I’m just proud of taking that leap and writing.
I think what sets me apart from others, is that I just keep it real. I hate being fake and not telling people how it is. I just keep real, and yeah
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I think risk tasking is very important. Especially in the creative field- just showing up is a risk. Because, being creative is uncertain, and no one believes in you. So, showing up and choosing yourself every day is a risk. Whether it be creative or in life in general- showing up… that’s a risk. And- cliche- it’s a risk worth taking- to be honest. But also, please use your own discretion. Being safe and healthy is the most important.
