Rising Stars: Meet Saeed of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Saeed.

Hi Saeed, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m a Grammy/BMI award-winning singer songwriter, vocal coach from Brooklyn, New York. I currently reside in Los Angeles, Ca. I started my career writing and referenced songs to local producers beats and for local artists from R&B, Pop and gospel. I’ve sung background vocals for Chrisette Michele an Opened up for the Queen of soul Aretha Franklin . I’ve worked with the legendary Clark sisters (Grammy Nomination), Trinitee 57 (Grammy Nomination) Dorinda Clark-Cole (BMI Award) and Lalah Hathaway (Grammy Win)

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely been a struggle pushing through this industry, because the Songwriter is the forgotten one, Even though we’re more important than they want to admit. There is no song without us . But just navigating through the music industry, is stressful in itself, but it wasn’t until I moved to Los Angeles that things really started to roll into motion. I even tried out for The Four on Fox and became one the fan favorites. it definitely opened my eyes to being an artist because for a long time I felt like I knew I can sing, And God definitely gave me a gift that I’m secure in but I felt like there was no space for me as Artist. Simply because I’m a big guy and there weren’t a lot guys like me out at that time I think maybe Ruben but that was it . So I helped everybody else be great Whether I was writing vocal producing, vocal coaching, or singing backgrounds. I also sung at an open mic That I hosted and other open mics all around New York and New Jersey to feed the Artist side of me. Long story short it hasn’t been an easy road. There’s been a lot of missed opportunities. As well as moments of hustling to make ends meet. But I’m still here to tell the story thank God

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I have been vocal coaching For the past 15 years I’m very involved in artist development and currently I’ve been helping my students get prepared to audition for shows like The Voice American Idol, etc.. What sets me apart, most vocal coaches can’t sing. I focus on training the ear and the tone of a singer.
I’m most proud that I’ve been able to achieve my success off of my own talent, and relationships with no manager. Also I’m glad that I can write the song , Vocal produce the song, vocal arrange the backgrounds And Record myself aka a one stop shop

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
The quality and characteristics That I feel is most important to my success is loyalty, being Reliable and being trustworthy. All of these characteristics and qualities makes people feel comfortable enough to reach out to me to help their Artist or themselves. Now It could also be a double edge sword. Because them knowing your loyal makes them also feel comfortable enough to use you to help get their artist to where they need to be then move on and use somebody else After you’ve helped Build Their skills or wrote that song for free, etc. You just gotta be careful because some people will latch onto you because you’re talented. They will learn What they can from you. Then leave you in the dust. But “ They can” is the key words because They can only Have what you give them. So don’t give of yourself fully to anyone And don’t be held captive by your loyalty because that’s how Your discernment gets cloudy.
