Hi Tomo, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Tomoko Heavner, and skincare has always been a true passion of mine. Throughout my career, I had the opportunity to travel the world for business—and wherever I went, I sought out luxury facials and high-end spa experiences. Over time, I began to notice that even the most prestigious spas had room for improvement. From technique to overall client experience, I often found myself thinking of ways their services could be elevated. That’s when I realized I had a sharp eye for detail and a deep understanding of what makes a treatment truly exceptional—from a client’s perspective.

That insight planted the seed for a new path. After going through a divorce and becoming a single mom at 50, I didn’t have the luxury of hesitation—I knew I had to move forward. During the pandemic, I made the decision to become a licensed esthetician. I earned my certification and began taking clients the very same week. That marked the beginning of building something entirely my own.

Now in the third year of running my solo business, I can truly say I love what I do. Every day in my studio, I’m dedicated to creating a space where clients feel cared for, confident, and genuinely seen. My work is not just about skincare—it’s about connection, transformation, and helping people feel their absolute best.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Time has definitely been one of my biggest challenges. As much as I’d love to keep my business and personal life separate, the reality is that parenting always takes priority. Ever since I started this journey, it’s been hard to carve out time just for myself. But when I pause and reflect, I realize—this is exactly what I once wished and prayed for. So instead of focusing on what’s missing, I try to stay present and truly appreciate the life I’ve created. In many ways, I’m living the dream I worked so hard to build.

I’ve worn many hats throughout my life, but the common thread has always been service. I was born and raised in Japan, where my family operated a traditional hotel for five generations.
