Rising Stars: Meet Romeo Gunt of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Romeo Gunt.

Hi Romeo, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Originally born in Ivory Coast and raised in Guinea, West Africa, I come from a family of professional athletes. My mom was a professional soccer player for about 14 years, which naturally led me to start playing soccer as well.

I moved to the U.S. when I was around 11 or 12 years old and quickly transitioned to football, since soccer wasn’t as big here. Football became — and still is — the love of my life. I had the opportunity to move to Los Angeles to play football for a junior college, which eventually led to a scholarship offer from a Division 1 program. Unfortunately, my football journey was cut short due to the COVID pandemic.

After that, I began training in MMA and was on track to go pro, but certain circumstances led me to step away from that path. That’s when I shifted my focus to fitness. Given my background, and with a large network of friends and family in the NFL and MMA, people naturally started turning to me for training once they saw I had the time and expertise. I started training professional NFL athletes and MMA fighters — many of whom appreciated how detailed, specific, and unique my training approach was.

I’ve always gotten compliments on my physique, and over time, those compliments turned into opportunities — clients ranging from athletes to celebrities to everyday people. Now, 3–4 years into being a trainer (and 13 years into training myself), I’m wiser, more passionate than ever, and excited to keep sharing what I’ve learned about the body and movement.I truly believe everyone should find a fitness passion of their own. You’ll feel your best, think more clearly, and gain the kind of confidence that only comes from pushing through hardship and discomfort. Once you master that in the gym, it creates a ripple effect that transforms every part of your life.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being as talented and advanced as I am, being an athlete has been both a blessing and a curse. I’ve gained a level of knowledge about training that most certified trainers may never reach, no matter how much they study. On the flip side, when it came to online programming, video creation, marketing, and the digital side of the game, I had to start from scratch—and I’m still learning every day. That’s been one of my biggest challenges over the years, but I’ve gotten way better at it. I know there’s still a lot more to learn, and that journey never ends. But even now, I’m already a gem in this game, and my work speaks for itself. For that, I’m truly grateful.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a fitness trainer who specializes in it all—athletes, everyday people, kids, and more. What sets me apart is that everything I teach, I’ve personally been through, over and over again. I know exactly what it’s supposed to feel like and how it’s supposed to look. I also understand that every body is different, so I never train everyone the same. What I’m most proud of is how diverse and talented I am—I don’t take that for granted. I’m constantly learning and growing. My work hasn’t just shaped others, it’s shaped me into a better person. And the best part is, I know there’s still so much more for me to conquer.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
I’ve learned the importance of patience, virtue, understanding, and how to work with different types of personalities. I’ve realized that mastering my craft is a long game—it’s not about quick fixes. The greatest things take the longest time, and I’m fully committed to that journey. My life decisions are guided by long-term plays, not short-term wins.
