Daily Inspiration: Meet AKA Musique

Today we’d like to introduce you to AKA Musique.

Hi AKA, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
AKA Musique started when AnaGoretti (she/her) had the idea to help her musically talented friends promote their music and network among other artists. She placed three of her friends in a group chat and through this came the birth of their music collective. As young Latine creatives they knew they needed to create and build their own community. It has been almost three years since their debut house show which included, art, music, dancing and everything they wanted their community to be.
AKA recently announced their expanding by introducing new members to create more creative opportunities through mutual creativity and aid.
AKA Musique’s vision includes all things creative through the lens of sounds. Music is the heart of our community.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Through an optomistic lens, it has been a smooth road. We have been relatively lucky to have built a community from our very first show. We have found our people who support us through everything we do.
Although I will say it has not been exactly what we expected.
We have run into learning the hard way that certain venues do not distribute the money evenly, understanding how different situations/ venues require different preparations whether that is audio wise, stage wise, or money wise.
We have found out what days work best with us, how to contact artists the best and so on.
Ultimately, it has been a smooth road but I will say it has a learning curve !

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
AKA Musique is a creative collective made to collaborate on musical projects and provide resources for up and coming artists. Together we produce events, specifically but not limited to concerts and shows. Our goals as a latine founded organization is to expand our community by diversifying the music scene and create a home for artists to come together and express themselves. Through our efforts we have been able to provide a wide network of artists with gigs outside their immediate communities and expand the local music scene’s connections with one another. An intended benefit of creating a community of artists that trust one another is bringing together multiple mediums of creativity and showcasing all types of artists.
We specialize in hosting music shows featuring small artists from all over California. We strive to create a community of like-minded creatives and be a resource for one another. Seeing people dancing, vibing, and singing at our shows is definitely a proud moment. All the hard work that goes behind the scenes makes it all so worth it. AKA Musique is special because of the people in it. Creating a safe space for everyone to be themselves brings out the best people.
I think what sets us apart is that although we focus on music and everything surrounding it, we value and include all creatives in our process. We want to be able to sustain a community where everyone is able to connect with one another surrounding the love of art and creativity.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
We see the local scene becoming an even bigger staple in the local culture. We believe local music has always dominated small areas across southern california, but lately it feels as though there’s been a boom in small artists and talent in general. The yearly event of Happy Daps started as a smaller festival 3 years ago and they just celebrated their 2025 show with a packed out venue full of small bands who love their people. There’s a resurgence in punk and rock with bands like Envitro and Chicano Mosh coming into the scene strong and immediately grabbing a fan base. That sound is in right now and it’s great. We see this local music scene regularly taking over bigger venues like the Observatory and Regent, Roxy, all of them. As for other collectives, it’s inevitable to not be the only ones to want to throw and represent bands. That’s never a problem, but an addition to family when it comes to other collectives uniting and making the best versions of our collective visions.
Another trend we see within the local scene is the yearning for community. Every time someone shows interest in what we do they center the importance of community. This generation is all about providing access and doing things together. A large shift from previous industries is that punk music will no longer be the only genre that welcomes everyone.
