Rising Stars: Meet Logan Monroe of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Logan Monroe.

Hi Logan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I make comics. I’ve been making comics since I was 8. I started self publishing my work in 2021. Before that I was making comics as a form of art therapy during covid. It’s a craft that is extremely accessible and therapeutic in putting your thoughts into a story.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There are so my struggles that come along. From a money standpoint it’s difficult to stay consistent. I do wholesale and vend throughout the year. It provides me enough income to continue my work.
With that being said, I still have to work another job to cover, rent and food. This makes it easy to get burnt out. So, I often have to schedule time to make sure I stay on top of my craft.
Another obstacle is having writers block. Pretty recently I had some of the worst writers block. I don’t like waiting for things to happen. I’m quite impatient in that way. Sometimes this causes me to make work that can feel inauthentic. Then I’ll have to start over again. I guess it’s been about keeping busy without rushing into something that will take me back to square one. That’s been the biggest obstacle for me.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I make comics. It’s been apart of my life since I was 8, maybe younger. I love telling stories that aren’t limited by the rules of the real world. Wired, bizarre, and absurd are often found in my works. I’m proud that I’ve continued my passion despite the obstacles throughout my life.
When it comes to comics I illustrate write my own works. I prefer a cartoon approach to my illustrations.

What’s next?
I plan to take my practice back to school. Getting a masters at the CCA in comics. From there, hopefully find a publishing house to distribute my work to a wider audience.
