Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelsie Evans.
Kelsie , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I met Mark around 2019; we both worked as gallery attendants at the STL Art Museum. It wasn’t until after the pandemic that I started working as a freelancer for Join the Birds. Mark would use a lot of the money he made from his job to fund his movie, which includes the storyboards I created for him. At the time it really challenged my artistic abilities and I was learning new skills fast to keep up with the demand.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
By this point in my life, I’ve been a professional artist for 15 years, most of it being self-taught. The internet has so many free resources it is hard to get professional feedback. Accountability as well. It’s hard to make yourself practice and branch out of your comfort zone.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in Character design. I love figuring out what a character looks like and how they should dress and wear their hair. I like to make sure their silhouette is clean and recognizable. Right now, I’ve been drawing a lot of women in ponds/lily pads. I also love to make fan art on the side.
