Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Huerta.
Hi Amanda, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up, I avoided attention at all costs—quiet, hid behind my hair, and far from the spotlight. That started to change in high school when I joined a theater class, hoping to work backstage only. But one day, after an actor dropped out of a play, I was unexpectedly/ unwillingly pulled in to read lines—and ended up performing on stage. That wild, unexpected experience became a turning point.
After the show, the applause and support made me realize it wasn’t as scary as I’d thought. I wanted to stay involved, just not on stage. My mum found an acting class for me, and though I waited until after graduating in 2019, I eventually joined—originally just to learn voice-over. I mistakenly ended up in an on camera acting class instead, but ended up loving it. Then COVID hit, the studio shut down, and I gave up on acting altogether.
A few years later, I got an email saying the studio had reopened. I took one last class, just to be sure I was really done—but it reignited everything. One of my teachers submitted me for a casting call as a class example, and to my shock, I got a callback. Though I didn’t book that one, it pushed me to submit again—and that next one landed me my first gig on May 20, 2022.
Since then, I’ve worked on over 70 projects. Every step has reminded me why I love this path—and why I’m here to stay.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It certainly hasn’t been a smooth journey—but in many ways, I’m grateful for that. I genuinely believe everything happens for a reason, even if that reason isn’t immediately clear. I’ve always been someone who values hard work and earning my accomplishments. In fact, when something comes too easily, it often feels off to me.
When I first started out, I received some valuable advice from fellow actors: there will be periods when the industry is full of opportunities to audition and be involved in projects, and other times when it feels completely stagnant. I took that to heart, and I’m glad I did. When things inevitably slowed down, I didn’t panic as much as I might have otherwise.
Of course, it was still stressful. I questioned whether the issue was me—was my acting not strong enough, or was my look not quite right? But thanks to reminders from my closest friend in the industry, Bryan Fernandez, who has been incredibly supportive, I was able to regain perspective. Instead of spiraling, I picked up a fifth job and spent more time with friends to stay busy and grounded while waiting for more casting opportunities to come around again.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m an up and coming Latina actress based in Dallas, Tx
I’m most proud of all of the collaborations I’ve had and worked on. In voice over for Crunchyroll and on camera in general.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
I may not be the best at giving advice, but if there’s one thing I can genuinely say, it’s this: never give up. I know it might sound cliché, but it holds a lot of truth.
Be mindful of who you choose to trust and surround yourself with. Just because someone is also in the industry or shares a passion for acting doesn’t mean you should feel obligated to follow their lead or take their advice as absolute. Your journey is your own—earn your accomplishments through hard work and perseverance, rather than relying on others to pave the way for you.
Unfortunately, like many competitive fields, the entertainment industry can attract individuals who may not have your best interests at heart. But that doesn’t mean everyone is like that. I’ve been fortunate to meet some truly wonderful people through acting, and I’m incredibly grateful for each of them.
Above all, don’t lose hope. Rejection—whether it happens once or multiple times—does not mean you’ll never succeed. Your moment will come. Stay committed, stay grounded, and keep going.
