Today we’d like to introduce you to Nancy Greco
Hi Nancy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was a competitive dancer growing up and studied exercise independently to learn how to change the shape of my body as dance is such a visual art. When I went away to college at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, I stopped dancing and gained weight in the beginning so I committed to the gym. I saw a flyer for the first Ms. Fitness Ontario competition when attending a friend’s body building show in Toronto. I went back to school and booked out the dance studio, had a local DJ splice some music for me and I choreographed a routine for myself, I went back to Toronto and entered the competition and won!
I then competed in the first Ms Fitness Can/Am and won that too. Then I went to Niagara Falls and competed in the Ms Fitness America regional and got second which qualified me for the nationals in California.
At the nationals I got offered to join an elite private training team as well as fitness clothing contracts and some magazine shoots and articles.
I moved from Canada to California a few months later when I finished college and have been a personal trainer ever since. And that was 31 years ago!!!
I now work out of a club in Beverly Hills as well as having thriving in home training business where I travel to clients homes and work them out.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Training has its ups and downs due to fluctuations in the economy, changes in clients personal lives and of course Covid was challenging. But I made it through. Clients do come and go but I always figure it out and get new ones. My business is almost exclusively based on referrals and word of mouth.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in getting people in shape and changing their bodies. I am most proud of working with people that have special needs and injuries. There is always something I can do to help them and all people. I have a wealth of education, training and experience. I have been committed to always learning and expanding my knowledge.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
You must change yourself and learn everything you can and get yourself in shape so you can be an inspiration to clients and have the knowledge to help them. Don’t even bother starting until you figure out your own body and are in shape. I would suggest to those starting out to develop great relationships with complimentary businesses and services which will help build a great referral network.
