Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaitlin Henry
Hi Kaitlin, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Through a series of events, I became sober curious when I broke my foot and began to reevaluate my relationship with alcohol. I felt the urge to take a break from my nightly wine habit to see how it made me feel. Breaking the habit was harder than I thought. One night I googled “girl that feels like alcoholic, but isn’t one”. Words like “Sober Curious” and “Gray Area Drinker” popped up and I was intrigued. I researched podcasts, books, and Instagram accounts, eventually creating my own Instagram account to share my writing around the process of breaking up with alcohol.
After filling my brain with information for three months, I was finally ready to remove alcohol and substances from my life for good. I have been sober since January 28, 2019.
After that, I attended graduate school to become a licensed marriage and family therapist. I spent two years in school learning about the mind body connection. I left graduate school early to become a certified Life Coach. I now work with clients who want to uncover the vision they have for their lives and remove the blocks that are keeping them stuck.
I also host a podcast called Step Zero, the step before step one. I discuss the journey of sober curiosity, emotional sobriety, personal growth and spirituality. I shares insights, hard-earned lessons, and spiritual discoveries I wished I had known earlier.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road less traveled is rarely ever smooth, but I have used the struggles to fuel my purpose. A spiritual teacher once told me, “Your greatest work is offering to the world what you wished had been offered to you in your moment of greatest pain.” I’m currently writing a book, Step Zero, that includes all the bumps in the road and how ultimately I have found a smooth path and soft landing pad because of sobriety. Along the way, I have been through infidelity in my marriage, sobriety, my ex-husband getting sober, separation and divorce, and the navigating the death of family members while staying sober. I used to drink whether I was happy or sad, and now that I don’t use alcohol to numb, I feel everything. It’s not easy, but it’s always worth it when I come out on the other side.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I love working with clients and seeing the shift in their perception after they learn something new about themselves. I truly believe we have all the answers within us. I am like a guide on their hike up the mountain: I am not there to carry them up, but there to lead the way.
I have a reinvention coaching program where I allow time and space for my clients uncover the vision they have for their lives in the areas of health, creativity, relationships, career, money, adventure, and more. We work together on goals and action steps they set for themselves so I can hold them accountable. My program is unique because we focus on how their beliefs, self-worth, boundaries, choices, self confidence, and visibility affect the vision they have for their lives.
I am most proud that every client I have worked with has told me they have changed for the better. I am the person I wish I had in my corner when I felt like I was struggling with no way out. I am grateful I can offer my clients time out of their busy days to share and have a safe container to be honest with me and themselves. There is no greater feeling than watching the “light bulb moment” for every single one of my clients.
What matters most to you? Why?
Giving back what I feel was given to me and raising my three children as a sober, present parent.
So many people have helped me along the way. I have learned so much and now trust my inner wisdom to guide me. I want to help others feel the same.
As Gabor Maté says, “The antidote to addiction is connection.”
