Daily Inspiration: Meet Roderick Mccarthy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Roderick Mccarthy

Hi roderick , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I moved to California in 1989 from St. Louis, Mo. I moved to LA to pursue my acting career.

I started my work journey in California working at a place called California Children Services. I worked in physical and occupational therapy with children that have physical and mental disabilities. To this day this was the most rewarding job ever. I loved those kids and still miss them today.

I left there and started my journey, working in corporate America for 10 plus years (AIG SunAmerica). I finally took that leap of faith of why I first moved to California and left my corporate job to pursue my acting career.

I was fortunate enough to start working as an actor, I have over 40 plus television credits. I have done guest or costar spots on shows such as. NCIS, Justified, E.R. Scandal, etc…

Unfortunately, I ran into a little bit of bad luck with my acting, long story (LOL) and it forced me to focus on producing. We produced this show called, Sensitive Men. I was fortunate to have Whoopi Goldberg featured in the show. One of my good friends married Whoopi’s daughter so I have known them since 1994. We were never able to sell our TV show and that lead me to my current venture, QuickFlick TV.

QuickFlick TV is a Social Video-On-Demand platform (think Netflix meets Facebook & YouTube) that offers viewers the power to vote on short independent TV shows they want produced by QuickFlick TV. Also, we allow the viewers to vote on what actors or social media influencers they would love to see on a future episode of a TV show.

I feel my whole life and all my experiences have led me to this tech startup, so I am excited to launch this streaming service this coming fall. Whoopi is attached to QuickFlick TV as an Evangelist, so I’m excited for this journey, I like to call this my magnum opus (LOL). Plus, the show Sensitive Men that we were never able to sell will be our feature show on QuickFlick TV.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I don’t think anyone’s journey is a smooth road. I have always thought big growing up, which is why I knew St. Louis where I grew up was not big enough for me.

My journey has been made rocky mainly self-inflicted. I will not get into too much detail because it is too long. Unfortunately, I had traumas as kid I never dealt with, and those traumas hindered me in my path. I met a woman who changed my life in 1999 name Nicole May who I will always honor as my angel. She was the first person to bring the word conciseness into my world. I was with her for six years before she finally left me.

Her leaving me was the most devastating thing I had experienced, but it got me to do a deep dive into my chaotic life. I became homeless after she left me because I didn’t have a job after leaving my corporate job to pursue acting. I did so much healing after she left me and discovered Buddhism, the rest is history.

My life has transformed since that time and my goal was to always be able to sit with Nicole one day to thank her. Unfortunately, that never happened, and Nicole passed away from cancer this past year. So, my life and my startup QuickFlick TV is dedicated to her for saving my life.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I wrote a lot in the “Story” section.

What I am most proud of is the transformation of my life and healing my traumas from childhood. Nothing matters if you are walking around unconscious.

What sets me apart is my ability to see through a person’s behaviors and recognize the deep traumas that are being triggered. I feel the world is unhealthy because 99% of us are just walking around with childhood traumas unaware of what can set them off. At any giving moment those traumas are triggered by the slightest of things. I am aware of my triggers, so I am able to get out ahead of them. I am not perfect because I make a lot of mistakes, but I am so aware of my inner demons that can be triggered at any moment.

Also, my instincts are very powerful. I’ve learned to go with them oppose to running away from them, like I did in the past. I feel I feared it, now I embrace it.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Use every moment and every encounter as a learning opportunity.
