Today we’d like to introduce you to Luz Pereira
Hi Luz, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born in Lima – Peru, where my mom is from and when I was two months old we moved to the City of Campos dos Goytacazes, in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This is where my father is from and where I was raised. Growing up I did a lot of classes like Olympic Gymnastics, ballet, kickboxing, Capoeira (Afro-Brazilian sport that mixes martial arts, dance and music). I was also part of a Symphony Orchestra called “Orquestrando a Vida”, which translates to “Orchestrating Life” playing classical viola.
After I finished high school, I decided to travel, which is my greatest passion. I’ve visited Argentina, Uruguay, Bolivia and Mexico, and then I decided to visit the USA. When I first got here I lived in New York, then California, Chicago, Colorado. After a few years in Breckenridge Colorado I found my self wanting to move back to California. I ended up calling Santa Cruz home where I became part of the Samba Soul Project, being trained by the 1st Samba Queen USA 2014. Then I moved to L.A. in 2024 where I fell in love with acting after I found a Open Class in North Hollywood coached by Mark McPherson. I had done theater in High School, which I had become very passionate about. I was able to use my creative side and this helped with my shyness. I remember like it was yesterday my classmates congratulating me for my performances, but I never paid much attention until I met Mark. I was for the first time recognized as an actress. This has changed my life. And thanks to that, today I have an agent and I am on my path towards achieving some long standing life goals.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s definitely not an easy path. Life in general is full of obstacles and complications. A lot of rejection, insecurities, anxiety… But this is what makes people unique and stronger. Acting in particular is a very challenging career path to take, but every second is worth it. I’ve found perseverance through hard times and critics has helped shape the woman I am.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m triligual. Portuguese is my first language and I am fluent in both Spanish and English. I’m currently working in French and Italian. I definitely want to keep working on more and more languages. I believe it opens doors and helps me to connect with other cultures, which is one of my passions, emerging myself fully in different cultures. I also graduated as an environmental technician from a Brazilian federal school called Instituto Federal Fluminense (Fluminense Federal Institute) in my hometown Campos dos Goytacazes.
I’m currently taking acting class with Studio 24Seven coached by Mark McPherson.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
That life as we know can disappear in the blink of an eye. Also, that we must value the presence of the people around us and be present ourselves. You never truly know when things can change so it’s important to live life to its fullest day to day.
