Rising Stars: Meet Heather Burgett of Santa Monica

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Burgett

Hi Heather, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started my public relations career in 1996, launching America Online (AOL) as a consumer brand, which was an exciting time in the digital revolution. Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to support thousands of business owners across various industries while generating billions of media impressions for my clients.

One of the most memorable moments when I started my career was being part of the publicity team that discovered “The Blair Witch Project.” It became a global phenomenon and remains one of the most profitable independent films of all time, which showed me early on that the power of strategic PR can masterfully shape public perception.

Over the years, I’ve advised on PR campaigns for hundreds of films and have represented Grammy® and Oscar® winners, authors, celebrities, rockstars and top brands. My passion lies in helping experts and thought leaders step into the spotlight to share their purpose-driven messages with the world.

As the CEO and founder of The Burgett Group PR Agency and PR Stars Online Programs, I’m dedicated to empowering business owners to grow their visibility in a way that creates a greater global impact. Since 2017, I’ve been carving out a new niche and getting recognized for the conscious business, marketing and PR techniques that we teach women founders.

I believe that good PR isn’t just about media placements—it’s about storytelling, legacy and showing up with a presence that deeply resonates with others. That’s why my work focuses on “visibility with a purpose,” helping women in business position, package and present themselves with a customized PR Plan so they can reach their highest potential and revenue goals.

There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing a client go from feeling like the “best-kept secret” to being a sought-after leader in their industry.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The entrepreneurial journey is rarely a smooth road—it’s more like a winding path filled with unexpected twists and turns. And I’ve learned that navigating uncertainty is where real growth happens.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve embraced is that adaptability is key. In 2008, during the recession, by getting in alignment with my vision and utilizing my entrepreneurial gifts, I had one of my most profitable years. Instead of pulling back, I leaned in deeper and helped my clients find ways to remain visible and relevant—even through challenging times.

Then, in 2020, when the world shifted dramatically, I made another big leap. I transitioned fully into becoming an online service provider after having only dipped a toe into the pool of my online business.

Inspired by the courage of my grandparents—three of the four enlisted in WW2—I went all in and began hosting free virtual community events.

I saw a gap in the marketplace and launched my high-end mastermind, showing small business owners how to get their own PR and visibility so they could thrive in challenging times. In less than 24 months, I was able to 40x one $10k investment in my business.

That experience affirmed that thriving in uncertainty is not just possible—it’s a skill that can be developed. I help my clients do the same by teaching them how to embrace change, stay visible, and continue to grow their businesses no matter what’s happening in the world.

These experiences have shown me that success isn’t about avoiding challenges—it’s about meeting them with resilience, creativity, and the willingness to evolve.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a transformational business consultant, award-winning publicist, and visibility expert, known for helping women in business step into the spotlight and become sought-after leaders in their industries.

Most clients choose to work with me because they are seeking good PR. There are a lot of visibility, marketing and business experts out there, but not many of them have 28 years of experience in public relations. I love to advise on my clients’ personal brands through this lens.

Through my company, The Burgett Group, and my Shine Online Mastermind, I empower coaches, consultants, and experts to monetize their magic through elevated visibility. If needed, we also support them with crafting an irresistible, signature, six-figure marketable offering.

What truly sets me apart is that I take a holistic approach to business. With a background in the healing arts, I know that everything starts with energy and alignment. I love raising the profiles of the world changers and light walkers amongst us. It’s reassuring to know that I am living my life purpose to help raise the visibility of women who are ushering in the next era of humanity. With all that’s happening in the world, there is no greater calling.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Finding the right mentor and building a powerful network is life-changing for any entrepreneur. My biggest piece of advice is to lead with genuine connection and value. Networking isn’t about collecting contacts—it’s about building real relationships.

For mentorship, I believe in having a mix of direct mentors (people you work with one-on-one), peer mentors (fellow entrepreneurs who support and challenge you), and indirect mentors (books, podcasts, and courses from leaders you admire). Some of my best mentors have come from simply investing in high caliber programs where I knew I would be surrounded by high-level thinkers who could help me grow.

When it comes to networking, what has worked best for me is showing up consistently in the right spaces—whether that’s industry events, mastermind groups, or online communities.

That’s exactly why I created The Shine Collective and my Masterminding Parties that raise the visibility of women in business. I wanted to cultivate a space where women could come together, connect, and truly elevate each other. I’m not just teaching this—I’m walking the talk, creating opportunities for women to collaborate, strategize and thrive together.

One key mindset shift that changed everything for me was realizing that networking isn’t about what you can get—it’s about what you can give by leading with generosity. When you focus on contributing, sharing your expertise, and lifting others, opportunities flow naturally in your direction.

Also, don’t be afraid to ask for support. So many people hesitate to reach out to potential mentors because they think they have to prove themselves first. In reality, most successful people are happy to share their wisdom—especially when they see genuine passion and commitment. You don’t get if you don’t ask.

At the end of the day, surrounding yourself with the right people can accelerate your growth in ways you can’t even imagine. Be intentional, be generous, and always invest in relationships that inspire you to reach your next level.
