Today we’d like to introduce you to Dan Hill
Hi Dan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I moved to Los Angeles in 2008 with my girlfriend, who’s now my wife, Jenny. I had spent my entire life in Columbia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C., and was eager to pursue a career in the film industry. Shortly after arriving, I found myself working for a Film and TV Memorabilia auction house called Propstore. I’ve always had a passion for performing and entertaining, which is why I majored in Mass Communications and minored in Theatre at Frostburg State University.
But it wasn’t until 2015 that I discovered my love for podcasting. Fast forward almost 10 years, and I’m excited to say I’ve just launched my third podcast, 41 and Done Podcast!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Is life ever a smooth road? I don’t think so. Life’s struggles and setbacks are terrible, but I find that often, those struggles and setbacks are the stories that I pull from to create authentic comedy for my podcast. I’ve struggled to find housing in Los Angeles, pay bills, stay in shape, be a good boyfriend/husband/dad, Maintain friendships, and pursue general happiness.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Have you ever listened to or watched motivational “fix your life” personalities and tried to get inspired by them to make changes in your own life, but their content was either too serious, too in your face, or too complicated?
Have you ever thought, hmm, that’s a good message, but bad delivery? Me Too!
I created the 41 and Done podcast to help steer folks in the right direction by using conversational comedy to share my opinions based on life’s minutiae. I hope that in my 41 years on this Earth, I’ve gone through something that maybe someone else doesn’t have to go through, and speaking about it makes their life easier.
I’m proud that I’ve launched my first independently produced, solo podcast. The quality of my podcast sets it apart from other independent podcasts. My comedic presence behind the mic and delivery of my message is second to none. I have bridged the gap between a personal wellness podcast and a comedy variety show. Join me weekly, where I bring aspects of life to the table and make the case that I am DONE with that aspect! I’ll persuade you to see it my way and motivate you to change while making you laugh before the episode is through. Whether you agree with my reasoning or not, you will be entertained. I’ve already released 5 episodes where I bash tipping at Starbucks. Then I talk you into ditching The Mandela Effect. I make the perfect case for why New Year’s resolutions are awful. I have another controversial episode where I urge everyone to stop scrolling on their phone while on the toilet. In the latest episode, I ask everyone to stop going to work while sick. You can listen to all of these episodes on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Amazon Music and watch on YouTube!
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Many people see me as outgoing and funny, someone who loves being the life of the party. What they might not know is that I struggle with my own insecurities, especially in social settings. It takes a lot to truly open up and feel comfortable being myself in public or larger groups. I’m constantly managing my stress levels and temper, which is why podcasting is so helpful for me. Not only am I trying to help others, I’m trying to help myself lead a better life by trimming the fat of life!
