Today we’d like to introduce you to Sasha Massacre
Hi Sasha, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Born and raised here in Southern California, I’ve always been a little different. I grew up listening to a variety of rock music. It’s always been my obsession.
I as a kid I never really fit in or had many friends, and once I started dressing darker and listening to more “emo” music, I really became the loner kid. Haha. I was probably 9 years old when I started wearing ONLY black- I really idolized Joan Jett and wanted to be just like her. I always thought she was the coolest.
My mom had me do some local runways when I was little, but I was always shy and didn’t like everybody staring at me. I never really started taking modeling seriously until around 2014 when I did my first music video feature and started spending more time in Hollywood. From then on I started picking up gigs pretty frequently- whether I was modeling, doing music videos, working at horror conventions, music festivals, hosting night clubs and events, or working at rock shows around LA & OC helping the bands out. I was a stylist for a high end brand for a few years as well and I feel like I learned so much from them that I carry with me to most of my gigs, and just navigating the fashion world in general.
I love what I do and I’m so beyond grateful for every opportunity I’ve gotten. I love these industries- and I love the fact that I’m able to be a jack of several trades.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I want to say yes, but definitely not.
I feel like I’ve been very very fortunate in stumbling upon opportunities, I’ve met some amazing people who have helped me along the way and guided me in the right directions. But I’ve definitely endured lots of hardship. It’s easy to get taken advantage of, and as a young woman especially, you have to stay vigilant of who you surround yourself with. I’ve definitely taken some abuse in the industry and there’s been plenty of times where I was spending more money than I was making just trying to keep doing what I love.
The modeling industry has also changed dramatically over the last decade, it’s very reliant on social media now, which makes it both easier and harder.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m known mostly for modeling, for sure. Lots of people have also discovered me through music videos that I’ve been in, which has been well over a dozen now.
As I mentioned earlier, I’m a jack of several trades. I’ve worked at countless conventions both selling merch and just walking around as part of the media, I’ve worked at music festivals, I’ve been a stylist, and I occasionally work with bands doing merch, VIP, wardrobe, makeup, stage hand, whatever I’m able to help with really!
I’ve done some media work at movie premiers as well which is lots of fun.
I can’t really say what I’m MOST proud of, I’m proud of it all. It’s really cool when I’m out at a show and people recognize me from brand catalogs or music videos. I just have fun wherever I go.
