Today we’d like to introduce you to Callie Deets
Hi Callie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, a charming small town in the Smoky Mountains on the east coast. Maybe if you know Dolly Parton (or Dollywood) you’re familiar. Growing up, it was a quiet tourist destination, and as a teenager, there wasn’t much to do. My friends and I often found ourselves hanging out at the local Walmart or going to the super small and quaint movie theatre two towns over nearly every day, which is where my love for film and acting really began to take root. This passion eventually led me to make the bold decision to move to Los Angeles after high school, with the goal of pursuing a career in acting.
Although I didn’t dive into acting right away, I was fortunate to have friends who were already pursuing it and who really encouraged me to give it a shot. With their help and that voice in the back of my head, I decided to take the leap. Not long after, I discovered that I truly loved it, and I am so grateful I took the chance because now I get to act and partake in some of the most amazing projects with some of the best actors and directors that younger Callie would really freak out about.
My first day on set was an experience filled with magic (and lots of crafty), and that sense of excitement and fulfillment hasn’t faded. I am truly so grateful every time that I walk on to any set, because I am so lucky to get to do what I do and to be able to work with some truly amazing artists in every field on any project. The journey hasn’t always been easy, but honestly every challenge has been worth it, and I’m so glad I persisted. Every day is a new lesson, and I truly hope to continue growing and learning throughout my career and contributing to my community.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The journey hasn’t always been easy, but every challenge has contributed to my growth as an actor. One of my biggest hurdles has been staying committed during tough times and overcoming imposter syndrome, constantly reminding myself that I was worthy of pursuing this path. The industry itself has also been ever-changing, especially with the impacts of COVID, strikes, and even wildfires, making it difficult to keep up at times.
Looking back, I’d say the beginning was the most challenging. Acting alone wasn’t enough to cover the bills, so I had to take on side jobs while still trying to carve out time to dedicate to my craft. Balancing both was definitely difficult, but it really taught me the value of persistence. Those early struggles really reinforced the importance of hard work, and in this industry, that dedication has made all the difference, turning every achievement and project into something even more rewarding.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As an actor, I specialize in both film and television, though I’ve always felt a deep desire to explore theater more as well. My journey into acting has been shaped by perseverance, adaptability, and an unwavering gratitude for being part of this craft. What I’m most proud of is the journey itself—the challenges I’ve overcome, from battling imposter syndrome to juggling side jobs early on while trying to make acting my full-time focus. These experiences have shaped me into the actor I am today, and they’ve taught me the importance of persistence and the value of every opportunity as well as never giving up.
In terms of my training, I have gone through various stages, constantly evolving as an artist. With the guidance of some of the best teachers, I’ve discovered that my strength lies in the continuous process of bringing a character to life. It’s about fully understanding their way of thinking; not only in the moments when I’m working on the text, but especially in the silences. It’s in those quiet moments that the true essence of the character is formed. I like to focus on the unspoken, the internal text that reveals what’s not said out loud. I believe this is where the soul of a human being, or of a character truly resides.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
