Rising Stars: Meet Melanie Nichols (deyle) of Orange County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melanie Nichols (deyle)

Hi Melanie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
The idea of leaving corporate life simmered for over a decade. Eventually, the internal and external dissonance became impossible to ignore, and exhaustion pushed me to a breaking point. One day, I made the decision. No elaborate plan—just a leap fueled by passion, a tolerance for risk, and a deep sense that my purpose was to serve differently.

After over 20 years of doing and leading all the functions under the broad talent management function (attracting, hiring, learning, developing, performance, retention, succession, culture, and change), I knew I wanted to focus on building healthier, higher-performing individuals, teams, and organizations. Throughout my career, I had seen a glaring gap—not a failure of character or business models, but a massive opportunity to do things differently.

Up to 90% of initiatives fail, and only 17% of employees feel highly engaged. What we have been doing isn’t working—not for lack of innovation or effort, but because we need to get back to basics. The key lies in leveraging what we know about the brain and committing fully to the human experience.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The hardest part was unlearning corporate conditioning. Rewiring how I think, operate, and structure my time was an internal challenge I didn’t anticipate. I was conditioned for firefighting and needed to detox from this mode to settle into a new rhythm.

Tactically, I had to skill up in areas outside my expertise. As an organizational psychologist, I was comfortable with leadership and culture—but marketing and sales were foreign and uncomfortable territory. I also gained a newfound respect for internal IT teams!

There was no shortage of services, and people were willing to share their knowledge for a price. There were also plenty of side roads to explore based on other people’s experiences. One of the most significant learnings came from choosing the wrong coach to help me write a book. Finding my authentic voice and owning it was not easy or fast. Even after I landed on my brand and tone, it continually became more focused as I grew, so it is always on my mind.
Additionally, the consulting space is oversaturated. Identifying authentic peers to surround myself with has been a journey. There are really wonderful people out there. It wasn’t easy at first to distinguish which ones best fit me and my goals.

Despite the challenges, stepping into this new space has reignited my passion for learning in ways corporate life never could. The transition was seismic, but the growth has been worth every uncomfortable moment.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in elevating leadership and team performance while transforming workplace culture through a human-centered approach.

I am a speaker | coach | consultant. I offer keynote, breakout sessions and facilitated workshops. As an organizational psychologist, I am certified and qualified to administer various assessments and tools to customize workshops. Along with well-known tools like Myers Briggs and DiSC, I also offer some less-known but powerful tools like The 6 Styles of Working Genius and The Process Communication Model. Depending on the need, I also partner with a team or organization to provide talent management services.

My superpower? Being a positive disruptor—challenging the status quo, helping others to challenge the status quo, and creating long-term impact that actually sticks.

Ripple Effect Culture isn’t just a name; it’s a philosophy. I believe in elevating individuals, teams, and organizations to create lasting, meaningful change. The ripple effect is real; I’m here to enable others to harness it.
