Conversations with Nicole Row

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Row

Hi nicole, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve been passionate about music for as long as I can remember. Over the years, I experimented with various instruments and singing, but it wasn’t until I picked up the bass around 16 that my interest became serious. By 18, I was fully dedicated to studying the instrument and diving into music theory.

After graduating high school, I moved from my hometown of Fresno, CA, to Los Angeles, where I spent two years studying music while gradually building my network. I started picking up gigs, playing with original artists and corporate cover bands, and performing both lead and background vocals in addition to bass.

At 22, I landed my first tour after auditioning for a young artist in need of a band. That opportunity set everything in motion, leading to bigger and bigger tours with artists like Troye Sivan, Daya, Miley Cyrus, and Panic! at the Disco.

For the past two years, I’ve taken on the role of bassist for Incubus. We have a new album coming out soon and an exciting year of touring ahead.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My journey in music has been both fulfilling and unique, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. However, it comes with its challenges and a constant inner dialogue.

The music industry moves in seasons—there are times when the phone won’t stop ringing and others when it’s completely silent. Adjusting to that ebb and flow took time, and in the beginning, it was unsettling.

Maintaining a strong work ethic is essential, but so is holding onto the joy that made me fall in love with music in the first place. Finding a healthy balance in all aspects of my career was something I had to learn over time.

There’s an undeniable competitive element in the music and entertainment industry, especially as a hired musician. For creative people, that kind of competition doesn’t always feel natural. It took me a while to trust my instincts, embrace what came naturally to me, and be confident in my own style rather than comparing myself to others or trying to meet external expectations. Learning to be authentic in my creativity has been incredibly freeing.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a bassist and vocalist, and I’ve had the privilege of working with a wide range of artists across different genres. Over the years, I’ve played with acts like Panic! at the Disco, Miley Cyrus, and Troye Sivan, and for the past two years, I’ve been the bassist for Incubus.

What I’m most proud of is the journey itself. Being able to make a living doing what I love, collaborating with incredible musicians, and continuing to grow as an artist is something I never take for granted. Every stage, every tour, and every album has shaped me in different ways, and I’m always excited for what’s next.

What sets me apart, I think, is my versatility and my approach to playing. I bring a deep respect for the music and the artists I work with, while also making sure I stay true to my own creative instincts. Bass is about more than just playing the right notes—it’s about feel, connection, and knowing when to step forward and when to sit back. That balance is something I’ve worked hard to cultivate, and it’s what keeps me inspired every time I pick up my instrument.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is to truly be present and enjoy the moment. It’s easy to get caught up in what’s next—preparing for the next gig, the next tour, the next opportunity—but some of the most incredible experiences happen right in front of you. I’ve learned to take a breath, soak it all in, and appreciate the music, the people, and the journey as it’s happening.
