Today we’d like to introduce you to Linn Holmes
Hi Linn, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Music has always been a big part of my life. My mama was in a gospel choir and would always bring me to their rehearsals, and music was always sung and played in the house I grew up in. One of my earliest memories is of my mom practicing her harmonies to gospel standard “Oh, Happy Day” urging me to sing a long.
Then as I got a little “older” I began singing in a gigging choir at the age of 3, and we did our first tv performance about a year later. I did a short stint on violin before diving into classical guitar, and a few years later began studying at this conservatory-esque music school at the age of 9. From there, it just kind of kept going – I was studying everything from classical, jazz, blues and rock. I just loved it. I started my first band with my best friends – a band named Spiridoula – and we began playing gigs all around Stockholm. I was just obsessed with bands such as Fleetwood Mac, Allman Brothers, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers (and yes, I did 100% get the full Stevie Nicks haircut with the side-art and everything).
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was definitely a little nerve-racking releasing my first solo pieces and putting them out into world. It did take me a long time until I felt like it was right. I’ve always been in bands and done session work, but doing something creatively with ones own name up front is quite different. and often very overwhelming.
It becomes so existential – who am I as an artist and what can I contribute? I think it just kind of got very deep into some sort of self discovery.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
So I am a Swedish-born, Los Angeles-based blues/rock singer and songwriter. I recently released my debut Ep “Introducing Linn Holmes” alongside producer Rev. Tom Chandler, featuring the talents of Daniel Jakubovic, Derek Frank, Adam Peri, Andrew Benjamin Maldonado, Tom Chandler, Alexy Shant Yeghikian and Jenny Dang.
I’m also in LA-based rock band Harry Katz and the Pistachios, combining elements of Garage Rock, Soul, Original R&B, and Roots Rock n Roll. We just put out a new song titled “Rock Bottom” – give it a listen! 🙂
Apart from my own music, I also do a lot of session work, performing and recording background vocals for a vast variety of bands and artists!
