Today we’d like to introduce you to Tatiana Mekikyan
Tatiana, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I always content created as a child, would make amateur home movies, and learned how to edit though iMovie. That translated into wanting to work in the entertainment industry, so I went and got a degree in film and television studies. I didn’t know exactly what I wanted to do, whether to be a director, producer, or writer, I just knew I always liked the movie and tv business and I wanted to play some part in it. During college I got my first production assistant job, I quickly learned that working on set was the not the place for me, but I still somehow wanted to work in entertainment. Once I graduated with my bachelors COVID hit and everyone started downloading TikTok. I was always enamored by the influencing world, so I decided to create content on the app and see where it takes me. I started to gain a following and with that opened so many doors where I got to work with some of my favorite brands. It also really help in some of my job applications, as I was still applying entertainment business jobs, that I had experience creating content and keeping up with trends. After I finished my masters, I started to do freelance social media management where I managed social media accounts for different businesses in Los Angeles, mainly in the Burbank & Glendale area. I fell in love with social media more because not only was I doing it for myself and growing my own platform, but I’m helping other businesses do the same. I still want to work in entertainment, but the goal is to work more on the social media marketing aspect in the future, where I can create content for campaigns or even have high-profile talent as my clients.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not! I don’t believe when you enter college is one straight path. There’s so many ups, down, left, rights, unexpected turns that you go through especially when you’re not 100% sure what part you want to play in the industry you choose. It was also tough because I come from an Armenian family where they were always told that you’re only successful if you’re a doctor, lawyer, pharmacist, or business owner, which unfortunately none of them appealed to me. My parents did have a hard time understanding how I can make my passion into a career, but now they see a lot of people my age are become successful by following their passions, especially those in social media.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a social media manager and content creator based in Los Angeles. I specialize, but not limited to, making content for small businesses such as an athleisure brand, medspa, law firm, or in the baking business. But I would say I’m mainly known for making content on my TikTok page where I share a lot of my lifestyle, beauty, or fashion content. I’m most proud of the fact I’ve gotten to work with a lot of big brands such as rhode, L’Oreal, ALO yoga, and that doing TikTok has brought me the clients that I still work with today. I think what sets me apart I try to keep my content tasteful, I try not to share TOO much, I do like my privacy at the end because whatever you put on the internet stays forever, so I’m very mindful with what I post, I don’t try throw my agenda onto my audience, and I try keep a safe space.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I obviously edit most of my videos on CapCut, that’s where I do most of my work and edit for me or my clients. I love listening to podcast, but mainly for fun, I love mostly the popular influencer podcast such as Call Her Daddy, The Broski Report, Jeff FM, Cancelled, etc.
