Meet Bogdan Yakubets of Seattle

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bogdan Yakubets

Bogdan, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started out as a kid in his early twenties who wanted to make movies. Not knowing the first thing about how to become a filmmaker, I decided to go to film school. I only completed one quarter before I realized that I didn’t have the money to pay for it.
After leaving film school, I started making YouTube videos, one of which gained a lot of views and made me a succesful YouTube channel for a while. This I also gave up.
I started looking around for local acting gigs in the Seattle area, hoping to meet people and grow in the film scene in Seattle.
After years of acting in local (and not so local) gigs like short films, commercials, student films, and even some feature films while at the same time trying to work jobs to make money, I decided that I had enough and stopped trying to be an actor in Seattle.
I was figuring out what I was going to do next while working a full time delivery job. During this period I met an ambitious director who was making a large-scale project in Seattle, the likes of which I had never seen in here. I worked intimately with him on that project. It was on this project that I met two professional stunt men. Martial arts and stunts were another passion of mine, so naturally I asked if I could work with them. They took me in and since then I have been training vigorously in martial arts, acrobatics, stunt performing, fight choreography, etc.
Recently I took part in a 72-hour Action film competition in Seattle, which my team and I won!
This led to more gigs as a stunt performer and choreographer in Seattle and opened up more doors to working with people.
I’m happy with the recent opportunities that I have had after a long of trying to find them.
However, not being satisfied where I am now, I am continuing to grow as an actor and stunt performer.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of the biggest obstacles was the limited amount of work in the Seattle area where I live. This, on top of having to earn a living while trying to pursue my dream of becoming a filmmaker and actor make it very hard to progress towards my dream.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an actor, martial artist, stunt performer/coordinator, and fight choreographer.
I’m known for my martial arts moves which I try to bring in the projects I work on.
This is one of the things I am most proud of, since I train very hard to be able to have these skills which I believe set me apart from others in Seattle.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
A lot of people are surprised to learn just how much training and preparation are required to maintain the level of skill that I am currently at. People are under the impression that I perform with great ease, but that’s simply not the case. What they don’t know is just how difficult it is for me to do “one more take.” This usually comes as a surprise to people.
I train rigorously 3-4 times a week to be able to do the things that people love watching.
Behind my confidence is a lot of unease and uncertainty about whether I will be able to pull off the things I come up with for the role that I perform.
