Today we’d like to introduce you to Luciana Debom
Hi Luciana, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey began when I was just four years old in Porto Alegre, Brazil. I started taking ballet classes to correct an orthopedic issue, but soon I fell in love with the magic of the stage. At the age of 12, I was invited by my teacher and director, Suzana Chemale, to join the Ballet Chemale Dance Company. I owe much of my experience and growth to her guidance. With the company, I had the opportunity to develop professionally and achieve first-place awards at various dance festivals nationwide.
When I was 15, I took on my first leading role in La Fille Mal Gardée, a three-act ballet choreographed by Niurka Naranjo de Saá (from the National Ballet School of Cuba), performed alongside Flávio Lima (from São Paulo City Ballet). As a soloist with the company, I danced in productions directed by the renowned maestro Emílio Martins (Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro), including The Nutcracker, accompanied by the Porto Alegre Symphony Orchestra and guest performances by Cecília Kerche and Francisco Timbó, principal dancers of the Municipal Theatre of Rio de Janeiro.
At 16, I was one of ten dancers selected from my city to represent Brazil at the Mercosur Cultural Festival in Uruguay. A few years later, I had the honor of performing as a soloist in Coppélia, with Ana Botafogo and Francisco Timbó, principal dancers of the Municipal Theatre of Rio de Janeiro, and Dennis Gray as Dr. Coppelius. I also performed the full Carmina Burana, by Carl Orff with the Porto Alegre Symphony Orchestra. Among the countless productions I have participated in, my artistic journey as a ballerina includes notable works such as Bolero de Ravel, Don Quixote (as Kitri), Cinderella (as Cinderella), and Sleeping Beauty (Pas de Deux Bluebird and Princess Florine), among many others.
At 23, I decided to leave Brazil to explore new horizons in Los Angeles. I took classes at the Westside Ballet of Santa Monica but soon found myself drawn to new experiences like surfing, skateboarding, and practicing Tae Kwon Do. My years of ballet gave me the discipline and physical skills to excel in these new activities. This led me to train under Master André Alex Lima (8th Dan) and his wife, Christianny Lima (7th Dan), founders of Lima Martial Arts in Culver City. I earned my purple belt under their guidance and hope to return one day to achieve my black belt.
However, it is as a journalist and public relations professional that I have made my mark in the United States. As a PR specialist, I work with athletes, artists, and musicians residing in the U.S., helping them share their stories and achieve visibility. My background in communication, combined with my experience in dance, sports, and my life in the United States, has given me the sensitivity and insight to truly understand the needs and challenges of those I represent.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Life can be quite challenging at times, and the paths we choose are not always smooth or easy. However, with determination and focus, I believe we can achieve far more than we ever imagined.
Throughout my journey, I’ve encountered skepticism and criticism—even from respected individuals. Some told me that my choices weren’t right for me. For example, I was told I didn’t have the body to be a ballerina, that my dream of going to the United States would never come true, and even that I lacked the talent to succeed as a public relations professional. Contrary to their opinions, I’ve achieved and accomplished far more than they ever saw in me.
But I learned early on to block out negativity and follow my heart, focusing on what I truly love and what feels meaningful to me. I believe it’s worked out well. I’ve achieved things I never thought possible, all while collaborating with some truly remarkable and inspiring people.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
First and foremost, I owe so much to my parents, who encouraged me to pursue education, practice sports, and learn a second language—English in my case. My father instilled in me a love for great music, from classical to rock, and my mother always motivated me to finish everything I started and pursue my dreams.
I’m incredibly grateful to my ballet teacher, Suzana Chemale, for the countless artistic experiences I had alongside prominent figures in the dance world, both in Brazil and internationally. The life lessons I learned through dance have profoundly shaped both my personal and professional journeys.
A special thanks to journalist Karina Abrahao, who believed in me and taught me so much about the PR profession. I’m deeply thankful to Gisele Ambrosio for trusting me for nearly a decade and allowing me to be part of her team and work with amazing professionals in the entertainment and sports industries. I also thank Arthur Deucher for his valuable referrals of artists who have significantly enriched my career.
To all my clients and those I have had the honor of representing in the media, thank all for allowing me to bridge the gap between them and the press, contributing to the democratization of information in their respective fields.
Lastly, I want to express my gratitude to my life partner, Christian Muhlbach, who invited me to travel to the United States for the first time in 2000. With him, I experienced living on a boat in Marina Del Rey and traveling through California in a motorhome, surfing and skateboarding at some of the most iconic spots on the West Coast. We also spent a memorable surf season in Maui and Oahu, Hawaii.
All of that contributed to shaping who I am, both personally and, above all, professionally.
