Today we’d like to introduce you to Raquel Fernandez
Hi Raquel, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Since I was a child I always wanted to dedicate myself to the world of art but it was very difficult for me to find out which sector because I was passionate about absolutely everything, I wanted to know and absorb as much as possible.
I ended up graduating in fine arts and for a few years I worked as an illustrator (for national newspapers, magazines and publishers). A few years later I discovered the world of tattooing and I was fascinated by it.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I would be lying if I said it was easy.
On the one hand because I wasn’t sure what to specialise in and secondly because it’s difficult to be able to do what you really want to do. During the years as an illustrator it was very frustrating because it wasn’t enough to make ends meet and I always needed extra work. Once I started tattooing it was simply a matter of learning the technique (in this sense it was very easy because of all the years of experience with drawing).
But it is also necessary to work very hard especially at the beginning.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am currently a tattoo artist.
I am always looking for a personal language that differs a bit from the mainstream, in this case it is a bit complicated because you always have to play with the client’s permission and taste but I am very happy with the process and how my style is developing. As there was no name for the style, I decided to call it contemporary tattoo.
How do you think about luck?
More than luck for the moment there has only been a lot of hard work, effort and love behind it, who knows if tomorrow there will be a stroke of luck.
