Rising Stars: Meet Mariela Salas of Fort Worth, Tx

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mariela Salas

Hi Mariela, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Growing up I knew I wanted to be my own boss. I knew I wanted to have my own business but I wasn’t exactly sure what I wanted to do. In 2017 I started a business called “Itty-bitty bows.” I was making bows, headbands, baby shower items, and maternity sashes. Although it went fairly well I stopped after a few months.
Fast forward to 2019 I had graduated as a Medical Assistant. I was working full time as an MA. I then started another business called “Todo con Amor” in June 2020. I started off with selling strip lashes. Just the lashes itself blew up quickly so I began to add more items. I added lash glue, cute storage books for lashes, and just everything a girl may need for lashes. In just a few months I added more items like earrings, sun glasses, and even makeup. My business was growing and I was so proud! After a little over a year in business I decided to take a mental health break. That was the end of Todo con Amor.

In February 2023 I started school again but it was for something different. I came across Glow Artistry Studio’s Instagram page probably in 2022. Everything intrigued me about the school. Doing my research I knew I wanted to do the Esthetics program she offered but money wise I knew I couldn’t afford it. So, I looked into her lash program. I said to myself “let me get my foot into the beauty world through lashing and then I’ll work my way into the Esthetics program.”
I was so scared to tell my family and my husband because I didn’t know what they would say. I remember when I told my sister about wanting to join the school. My older sister is my best friend so when I told her she said “God put this idea in your heart for a reason so do it!” That was all I needed to hear.

I started the lash program February 2023 and immediately fell in love. I faced a few personal struggles through the lash program but we did it! I finished my lash hours May 2023 and was so excited to begin my journey. Just a few days later after completing the lash program I started the Esthetics program. The opportunity was there so I had to make it happen. I started the Esthetics program May 2023 and graduated October 2023.
I didn’t officially become licensed until February of this year. Angela, the owner of Glow Artistry Studio also rents out suites in one of her buildings and a suite was becoming available. I talked to my husband to make sure it was something we could move forward with.

February 10, 2024 I moved into my first suite. I was so scared of failing but also so excited to start what I had worked so hard for. I cried and prayed so much for this. I knew God was beside me and knew that as long as I have him everything would be ok.
July 2024 I moved into another suite in Angela’s new building. It was a bit bigger so I had to take it. I’ve been at that suite ever since and my heart is happy. God is great!

June 2024 I left my full time job as a Medical Assistant. It was not in my plans to leave it so soon but I believe everything happens for a reason. I also became an instructor at Glow Artistry Studio, the place I love so much and that helped me become an Esty.

God made it happen, he wanted things to go this way. I now work part time as a beauty instructor at Glow and other days I am able to take clients. Although being in the beauty industry was not something I imagined doing I am blessed that God put this thought in my mind because now The Amor Beauty Room exists.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This journey has definitely not been smooth. If I am being completely honest some people in my life thought I was crazy for wanting to be part of the beauty world. I didn’t let that stop me though, it actually gave me a push to show them that I can make a life out of this.
I was working full time during the day and going to school in the evenings. I missed out on time with my husband and family. I would see my husband on the weekends because by the time I would get home during the week he was asleep. I felt like a bad wife because I couldn’t do simple things like cook. He was the one doing that and much more. Shout out to my husband for being supportive and simply being there for me.
Through struggles and tears we made it!
I thank God every step of the way, for giving me the strength to keep going.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in providing a relaxing experience for all of my clients. I offer different facials which are all customized to their skin type, bacials which is a facial but for your back, baby bump facial for moms who are expecting, waxing, lash lifts, and lash extensions.
I always get compliments on my massages and that my hands are soft. I’ve been told I make them feel like they are on clouds with the massage and simply the mood in the room. That makes me happy because my goal is for everyone that steps in our suite feels relaxed, safe, and loved.
That’s why my business name is named what it is, The Amor Beauty Room.
A room filled with love and I don’t ever want someone to not feel beautiful.
I myself have felt that way and even a little discouraged about myself, nobody should ever feel that way.
I am here to provide a relaxing experience and to enhance your beauty.
Self care matters, YOU matter!

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
There are so many but a favorite childhood memory that instantly comes to my mind is playing outdoors with my neighborhood friends. We would spend endless hours outside playing tag and hide and seek. Getting in trouble for not wanting to go back inside. This question instantly brought a smile to my face remembering those times.
