Today we’d like to introduce you to Monica Halligan
Hi Monica, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I got my first makeup palette on my 5th birthday and I knew then that I wanted to be in the beauty industry! I have an older sister so by junior high I was getting her and her friends ready for prom and formal. By college I was doing weddings and became officially licensed in 2008. The beauty industry is a wild ride, but I think I always knew it was where I wanted to be.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It is always hard starting out and can be hard to find your place in such a massive industry. For me there have been many bumps in the road. I have not gotten several “dream jobs” I have lost jobs, moved across country and had to rebuild and start over. I moved to Los Angeles 11 years ago and it has been one of my hardest challenges so far. I had no contacts or a job when I first moved here. But I am proud to say that after this decade, I am renting my own space in West Hollywood, working on a TV show and have a wonderdul list of clients. I wouldn’t be where I am without my struggles and I get to do what I truly love to do.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a makeup artis and eyebrow specialist. I rent a chair at the Marco Pelusi Hair Studio in West Hollywood. I offer makeup application/lessons, eyebrow shaping, lash lifting, brow lamination, threading and more. I work on a TV show called Tribunal Justice doing makeup for Judge Tanya Acker, we are currently filming season 3. Everyday looks different which keeps it exciting. One of my proudest moments to date is going out on my own in June of 2022. I signed my 3rd year lease at Marco Pelusi Hair Studio this summer. I am looking forward to what 2025 has in store.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I like best about Los Angeles is all the different cultural cuisines. The food scene here is amazing and it doesn’t always have to be at a 5 star restaraunt. Some of the best food I have had has been from a food truck. What I like least about the city is the lack of public transit. I feel like I live in my car, as I am sure most of us do.
