Rising Stars: Meet Lejin Fan of London

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lejin Fan

Hi Lejin, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey as a content creator and an artist has been shaped by a mix of cultural influences, personal exploration, and a passion for storytelling through visual mediums. I was born and raised in Xiamen, China, it’s a peaceful coastal city but it’s very small so I don’t have much access to bigger shows and events, so I spend a lot of time on the internet instead, the internet became an influence for me even now.. Then I moved to LA for my BFA, to NYC for work, and now to London for my MA study and personal career. My bond with the internet and virtual pop cultures, my experience with the ever-changing landscape around me, and my passion for experimenting art with technology which was found later in my academic journey all together impact my career right now in art and fashion deeply.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but the struggles have been essential to shaping my path. There are struggles with settling down from constant relocation, balancing my diverse roles, navigating limited opportunities, and navigating the uncertainty that comes with being a creative person…
Through all these transitions, I’ve had to constantly adjust and reinvent myself, and push through moments of self-doubt. But these struggles have taught me resilience and deepened my connection to my works. Despite these struggles, every hurdle has pushed me to grow, to reimagine my goals, and to find deeper clarity in what I want to achieve as a creative and a person.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a fashion content creator most active on Instagram, TikTok, and Little Red Book. I’m also an interdisciplinary experimental artist. I have always been passionate about exploring various intersections of art with other disciplines, and I realized my interest and value in a few programming classes in engineering school a few years ago. I am deeply curious about the synergy between art and technology and the potential of creative technology to redefine art, culture, and human expression. This motivates me to study independently different art+technology techniques such as digital art, video game development, and virtual reality.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Really big shoutout to my family especially my parents. Growing up back home I was a rebellious kid having very bad relationships with them, it wasn’t until when I left for another country I understood that they’re the most important people in my life. Their belief in me has been a constant source of motivation and I deeply appreciate their support all the way. Thank you Mom and Dad (´｡• ᵕ •｡`) ♡
