Shahin, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today?

Shahin Studios was born out of our shared vision to create a multidisciplinary creative practice that brings together art, design, and craftsmanship. Back in Egypt, Marwan began designing album covers for global artists like MIA, Sean Kingston, and Snoop Dogg while simultaneously showcasing his artwork in exhibitions worldwide. Alongside this, he worked on merch designs and created branding identities for musicians, their collectives, and ventures, blending artistry with functionality.

Meanwhile, Honda started as a silkscreen printer in Egypt, focusing on mastering the craft of printmaking. Together, we realized we had the perfect combination of skills—Marwan could design, and Honda could print—giving us the ability to offer seamless solutions for clients and produce fine art limited editions of Marwan’s work. That synergy became the foundation for Shahin Studios.

In 2017, we moved our business to Los Angeles, where we expanded into new ventures like interior design, murals, spatial art, and installations. We’ve even explored custom tile-making and collectible design objects. Today, Shahin Studios is a thriving creative hub that balances artistry with technical excellence, offering services that span from branding and silkscreen printing to transforming spaces through innovative design. Each project is a reflection of our Egyptian roots, our commitment to craftsmanship, and our passion for storytelling through design.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s safe to say the road has been anything but smooth, but every bump along the way has shaped who we are and what Shahin Studios stands for today. Moving from Egypt to Los Angeles was a massive leap. We had to rebuild our network from scratch while navigating a completely different market and culture. The creative industry here is highly competitive, and establishing ourselves in such a saturated space required resilience, adaptability, and a lot of trial and error.

On top of that, there were challenges unique to our multidisciplinary approach. Balancing fine art projects with commercial ventures, and ensuring each maintained the same level of excellence, often stretched our resources. There were late nights figuring out how to scale our production while still holding onto the hands-on craftsmanship that defines our work.

One of our biggest struggles was with silkscreen printing, especially in the early days. Fine-tuning the process to meet the high standards we envisioned for both our art editions and client work was no small feat. Honda spent years mastering the craft, while Marwan navigated the creative direction and client relationships. It was a labor-intensive journey that required both of us to constantly evolve and learn on the job.

One of the most important lessons we’ve learned is the power of adaptability. Every project comes with its own set of challenges, whether it’s a tight deadline, an unexpected obstacle, or finding ways to align artistic vision with practical constraints. Being flexible and solution-oriented has not only helped us overcome hurdles but also allowed us to grow as creatives.

We’ve also learned the value of collaboration. No project happens in isolation, and working with skilled professionals who bring unique perspectives and expertise has been key to achieving the ambitious results we aim for. Collaboration isn’t just about delegating; it’s about trusting others to help bring a shared vision to life.

Lastly, we’ve realized that persistence and consistency are everything. Success rarely happens overnight, and the journey is often filled with rejections, setbacks, and moments of uncertainty. Staying focused on our craft, learning from each experience, and continuing to push forward have been critical to building Shahin Studios into what it is today.
