Life & Work with Alexis Marrero of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Marrero.

Alexis Marrero

Hi Alexis, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my career as a singer/songwriter 8 years ago when I was 16 years old! I was posting covers on Instagram and was discovered by a talent scout. She had put me in touch with my first-ever producer, Shannon McArthur, and the rest is history! Over the years, I worked with numerous producers and experimented with several genres melded with my pop sound. About 2 years ago, I re-discovered my love of rock music and knew I was meant to be a pop-rock singer. Now I am exploring my new sound and solidifying myself as an artist. It’s been an incredible journey thus far, and I am so proud of everything I have been able to accomplish!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
This journey has definitely had its ups and downs. I have dealt with experiences that made me want to quit the industry entirely. Entertainment is a very tricky field to navigate and there are many sharks in the water. Despite those negative moments in my career, I am incredibly grateful for all of the amazing people I have worked with or met over the years. Even in the darkest moments of my career, some people were absolute lights in the dark that encouraged me to keep going. They taught me that as long as I loved what I was doing and believed in myself, I should never give up. I hold that advice close to my chest and strive to always have a positive outlook on my career!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a pop-rock singer/songwriter who creates dark music with a story! Ever since the beginning of my career, I have been quite the storyteller. While not every single song I write has a major story behind it, as a songwriter, I primarily write songs with a story to them. I often am inspired by stories from my life or those around me’s lives to create authentic music that holds true to my artistry. I am also known for my dark sounds and lyrics. I have always been drawn to dark pop music and continue to make music that has an eerie or haunting feel. I believe these aspects of my sound set me apart from other artists. Many of today’s pop songs do not have a story to them. While I respect that, I enjoy creating music in which people can find comfort in. I love it when people can feel their story within my music and connect to my lyrics. While we may not share the same stories, through music, we can relate to one another and connect on a deeper level. That means the world to me. I am proud of the journey I have been on as an artist and am proud of all I’ve been able to do throughout my career.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was one of the more shy kids in class. When you would get to know me, I’d light up the room with my personality. If you didn’t know me, I would come across as extremely quiet. I was always very silly and adventurous. I loved to be outside and play sports with my friends. I also loved to sing so much! I would sing and dance around the house re-enacting movies and music from that time. Music has always been a major part of who I am, and I still hold many traits I had as a child. Through music, I was able to find more of a voice and build confidence in myself!
