Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Jam
Hi Amy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey started in a way that’s anything but typical. My mother, who raised me as a single immigrant mother after leaving everything behind during the Islamic Revolution in Iran, taught me about grit, determination, and how to reinvent yourself when the world shifts around you. Watching her build our life from scratch in a new country, I learned the true meaning of resilience and adaptability—and the importance of always being resourceful.
I began my career in 2004 at the #1 Aerospace Engineering company in the world, which gave me an invaluable crash course in navigating high-stakes environments. But I quickly realized my talent wasn’t just in technical work—it was in leadership and managing large-scale projects. From there, I moved into project management and found my passion in driving big transformations within organizations.
Today, I wear many hats: technology PM, business coach, author, and bakery founder. I’ve led massive IT projects like implementing the enhanced patient care system for Walter Reed during the Afghanistan war, where I worked with wounded service members and their families. It was both challenging and deeply meaningful, giving me the chance to make a real difference.
My entrepreneurial side came to life when I founded Bread Bros, a bakery that’s all about bringing Persian and global flavors together. It’s a labor of love that blends my heritage with my business acumen. And beyond that, I’m passionate about empowering women—especially single immigrant mothers like my own. Through coaching, I teach them how to turn a single skill into multiple income streams, giving them the tools for financial independence and success on their own terms.
Looking back, I see that every step along the way has been rooted in what my mom taught me: resilience, adaptability, and the courage to take charge of my own story. I’m still growing, but if there’s one thing I know for sure, it’s this: you have to carve your own path, even if it means going off the beaten one.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Has it been a smooth road? Let’s just say, if it were, I’d be a lot more bored. The truth is, smooth roads don’t build character—bumps, twists, and the occasional sharp turn involving whiplash do.
There were plenty of struggles along the way, and most of them weren’t just professional. Growing up, I watched my mom work twice as hard for half the recognition. As a single immigrant mother, she faced the kind of uphill battles most people can’t even imagine. But she taught me that you don’t get anywhere by sitting on the sidelines. That tenacity is something I carried with me into my career—whether it was working in aerospace engineering (where women were few and far between) or managing large-scale projects in tech, I often found myself in male-dominated spaces where I had to fight for my voice to be heard.
Another challenge was learning how to balance ambition with personal well-being. For a long time, I believed that being a “doer” meant saying yes to everything and putting everyone else first. But here’s the hard lesson I learned: you can’t pour from an empty cup. Burnout is real, and it forced me to reevaluate how I was managing my time, energy, and relationships.
Starting my bakery, Bread Bros, came with its own set of struggles. Running a business that blends my heritage with global flavors was deeply personal, but like any entrepreneur will tell you, passion doesn’t make the business run smoothly. There were moments of doubt, financial challenges, and the pressure of being the face of something you built from scratch.
But every bump in the road gave me a new lesson. I learned how to pivot, how to turn challenges into opportunities, and most importantly, how to stay resilient. I credit that resilience to my mom and the long journey we’ve been on together.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Bread Bros isn’t just your average bakery. It’s the result of a personal passion that grew into something much bigger—a place where culture, flavor, and a little bit of entrepreneurial grit come together. We specialize in authentic Persian treats like taftoon, sangak, barbari, and pastries like baklava, zaban, napeloni, cream puffs, and delicate tea cookies. But we don’t stop there; we’re known for being a one-stop shop for bread and pastry products from around the world because we incorporate bread and pastries from all around the world. We are a bakery where you can buy bakhlava and brownie or even a blondie. It’s truly a blend of tradition and global flavors, all under one roof.
What sets Bread Bros apart is the authenticity of our process and ingredients. We even prepare Turkish coffee the traditional way, using heated Turkish sand (yes, the sand is from Turkey) to get that perfect flavor. We’re not just a bakery—we’re creating an experience, and that’s something I’m really proud of. When customers walk through our doors, they aren’t just buying bread; they’re tasting a piece of culture, history, and craftsmanship.
At the heart of Bread Bros is our mission to bring people together. We pride ourselves on creating a space where families, communities, friends, and even strangers can gather, share, and connect over the simple joy of great food. There’s something so endearing about seeing people from all walks of life come together over our bread and pastries. It’s a reminder that food isn’t just about sustenance—it’s about connection.
What I’m most proud of, brand-wise, is how we’ve remained true to our roots while also catering to a diverse community. We’ve built a space where people come not just for the food but for the story behind it—the story of a business rooted in heritage but always looking forward. And beyond the bakery counter, we emphasize community. Whether it’s through collaborations with local businesses or hosting cultural events, Bread Bros is more than a bakery—it’s a bridge between cultures.
I want readers to know that Bread Bros isn’t just a place for delicious food; it’s a brand that stands for authenticity, quality, and a deep love for what we do. From our Persian breads to our globally inspired pastries, everything we offer is crafted with care, with an eye toward creating moments of connection. Whether you’re grabbing a loaf for dinner or sitting down for a cup of coffee, we want you to feel like you’re part of the story – because you are. We started with 1 type of bread product when we opened doors in 2022. After listening to feedback from our loyal customers over the past two years, we now have 36 different products and that’s just one way of how our customers play the starring role in our story. Everything we do is for them.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
No one makes it to the top alone, and I’ve been lucky enough to have some incredible people by my side. My mom deserves the biggest shout-out, not just for raising me but for teaching me lessons you won’t find in any business book. She didn’t just give me resilience—she showed me how to hustle. Growing up, I saw her turn every obstacle into an opportunity, and that mentality has shaped how I approach challenges today. My mom wasn’t just surviving; she was thriving, and she made sure I knew that nothing was out of reach if I was willing to work for it.
Then there’s my incredible Bread Bros team. No bakery runs on passion alone—it takes hard work, skill, and a lot of sweat. The people behind the scenes, our bakers, have been my rock. They’ve taken my vision and run with it, making sure we deliver not just food, but an experience. Without them, Bread Bros would just be an idea, not the thriving bakery it is today.
I also owe a lot to our loyal customers. They’ve supported us from day one, spreading the word and making Bread Bros a part of their lives. Every time I see a returning face or hear that our pastries were the highlight of someone’s day, it reminds me why we started this journey in the first place. Their support isn’t just appreciated—it’s essential.
Success, in any form, is a team effort, and I’m grateful for every person who’s played a part in this journey. It’s their belief, energy, and dedication that keep me pushing forward, and together, we’re making this business thrive. We have a saying in the Persian culture, it goes – clapping with one hand doesn’t make a sound. None of this would be possible without the people who’ve clapped alongside me.
