Today we’d like to introduce you to Sister Luz Maria.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
All my life I wanted to be nun. I entered the religious life at the age of 25. I have a strong calling to serve in the name of our Lord. My mission is our lady of Guadalupe school. I have been teaching since 10 yrs. now. I teach TK and Kindergarten. I’m blessed I can communicate with the parents of my students freely and spend time with them. I couldn’t do that really when I was a Franciscan 4yrs ago. Now I am a missionary sister of the Holy Spirit and I spend my free time doing extra activities for my students. I have devoted myself to my school and students. Having a yearly spelling bee and marathon for TK and Kindergartens. Repainted the kindergarten building, bought 19 new trikes for the children, and transformed the TK and kindergarten room to a learning environment. I can walk miles and miles to collect donations for the school. My goal is to repaint and beautify the whole school for the children but of course that will take many donations to accomplish it. I’m also the director of religious education at St. Patrick church in north Hollywood. In constant prayer I work 2 missions. I work 14hrs a day nonstop for the glory and work of God to serve anyone who needs my help. Yes, I get tired, but God somehow gives me the strength to continue the mission for others.
I’m very happy and I know that God is with me because everything falls in to place or unexplainable happens when I most need him. You might say she was a Franciscan? Yes, I was but according to their statues if you become sick during your formation you can no longer continue. I was transferred to another community of sisters which I am right now. I went to the doctor and the doctor diagnosed me as healthy. Medical tests where done and everything was negative. It was a sign that God wanted me to serve into another mission. My point is that if you have a dream you should never let anyone tell you no only God decides what your purpose is, and he will open doors and bless you. . By this my community of sisters encourage us to spend time with the people and evangelize and my vocation has grown because I see the needs of the people my students and I can truly pray for them. I love my vocation and I love my mission work. I thank everyone who has helped me to where I am today.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The struggles were when I became sick according to the Franciscans and I believed it. And they decided I couldn’t continue.
I was truly healthy, and I was able to continue being a nun in a different community of sisters and God has proven that he wants me to serve him but in a new mission. He decides. If I wouldn’t have struggled that incident I wouldn’t have lived my vocation to the fullest like I am doing with the blessing of God right now. Sometimes we don’t understand why situations happen, but we need to continue, and God will let us know what he wants from us.
Our Lady of Guadalupe School Rose Hill – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
What sets me apart from others is that I can work many hours without getting paid or less than the other teachers and be super happy. I work for God if the school needs me or the parents or my students I am there. Overtime for God And not for money.
Our Lady of Guadalupe School. I teach TK and kinder the principal has told me I’m very valuable to the team. You really don’t see nuns in catholic schools anymore. I try to help my school in many ways through collecting donations, uplift the TK and kinder program. Buying things for the kinder and TK rooms, painted the kinder building and bought 19 trikes.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success for me is knowing God is proud of the work I did for him every day and ask him to bless all the people who helped me.
