Life & Work with Jes Danz of Los Angeles – DTLA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jes Danz

Hi Jes, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve always been Jes Danz—and for as long as I can remember, dance and music have been my escape. Growing up with my dad’s addiction struggles, creativity became my way to process emotions and find light in dark times. Whether it was playing in the school band, creating mixtapes, or choreographing routines, music and movement were my ways of expressing myself and healing.

As I got older, I realized I could share this with others. DJing became my way to blend sound, style, and energy, creating spaces where people could let go, connect, and feel free. There’s nothing better than putting on a great outfit, listening to awesome tunes, and dancing it out. For me, dance music and fashion are ways to celebrate life, move forward, and reclaim joy.

Today, dance music, fashion, and self-expression are at the heart of everything I do. They help me embrace joy and connect with others, and I’m grateful to turn my passion into purpose and share that energy with the world.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Growing up with a single mother and a father in prison, there were always challenges. Financial strain was a constant, and nothing ever came easy. But like my mom always said, ‘What doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger,’ and I’ve held onto that throughout my life. I learned early on how to be resilient, how to turn obstacles into motivation, and how to never let circumstances define me. I truly believe my mom is my hero. People can choose to walk out of your life every day, but she chose to stay and stick with us, no matter the struggles. That unwavering dedication and love are a big part of who I am today.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m all about creating DJ sets that elevate the energy and keep the dancefloor alive, blending house, disco, and dance anthems with a keen ear for fresh tracks that keep the vibe flowing. Whether it’s digging into underground gems or playing the classics that keep us dancing, I love giving the crowd that euphoric moment. I’ve had the honor of working with brands like Mercedes-Benz and Virgin, and have performed alongside talents like Oliver Dollar and Blondish.

What sets me apart is my flawless timing and mixing skills. Whether I’m warming up the crowd or playing prime-time, I know how to build the energy and create a vibe that brings people together. I’m also diving deeper into music production, which is taking my sound in exciting new directions. On top of that, I’ve been working on a web series and livestream that combine my love for music, dance, and style. It’s all about blending music, content, and creativity to connect with the dance community in a way that feels real and authentic.

What does success mean to you?
Success, to me, is being happy and financially free. What makes me happy is creating magical moments through music, events, and performance—bringing people together and making them feel something. It’s about leaving a positive mark on the world and making it better than I found it. And beyond that, giving my mom her dream house on the hill would be the ultimate success—along with giving her some grand-babies and getting married (LOL).
