Rising Stars: Meet Dominique Lovings

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dominique Lovings.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am originally from St. Louis, Missouri where I attended undergrad at Webster University for Broadcast Journalism. I always knew that I was supposed to be in entertainment in some way shape or form. I remember wanting to be a supermodel in the 8th grade and had a really great opportunity but my mom told me no. This household is about education and you are going to school and you will finish school. Womp. I even tried again after high school graduation and as you can see, I am thousand of dollars in debt because of school.

I literally moved to LA a few months after college and I am forever grateful as I had a job when I touched down here working for Nordstrom at The Grove. That was when I realized LA was a different type of beast. I say that in a good way. There was so much opportunity at my fingertips that I didn’t know how to grasps it at first. It wasn’t until I started working for Saks that I really started to hone in on my talents and opportunities.

I had a crazy client book which had tons of celebrity clientele. I would even start bouncing ideas off them. It was crazy. I ended up partnering with a local blog and started doing red carpet and other interviews which boosted my confidence to another level. Interview came so easy to me and people kind of gravitated towards me. Ultimately, the blog and I parted ways. I ended up writing for a huge gossip blog after that and HATED it. I barely received credit for my work and was over it within two weeks. I bounced.

Years later, here I am with a new podcast, Whiskey Soured: Libations and Conversations and I launched a luxury candle line, Saint Angeles. I know its how to lead great conversations and sell luxury products. So here we are.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My God, smooth road? What’s a smooth road? I’m dead ass serious. I always tell people the worst year is the first year then about year five or six something is wild is bound to happen that will catch you completely off guard.

Year one, I was living in Beverly Hills with a cousin that I thought I knew but really didn’t. That alone was weird but I move on got found a dope studio in Ktown. Year six, I lost my job at Saks on some retaliation type of ish, I’m literally just in bounce backstage of that. I literally would ask my dad for grocery money at times but I refused to move back home. My dad also pushed me to stay and stick it out.

God knew I had no business in those Stl streets. He definitely covered me!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I would call myself a mini mogul in the making. Outside of being an on air talent, I have Saint Angeles. My candle line is my baby. I am really going hard and ultimately want her to be in so many doors such as Nordstrom and Saks (sweet revenge).

I think I’m most proud of pushing through the fear and getting things done. We are in such a weird time where social media puts so much pressure on us especially if you don’t have the biggest following but once you realize all of that is fake, you more freely. What set’s me apart from others is my personality and drive. Being from St. Louis, you view life in a different way. Not many make it out, let alone make it out alive. We have a different hustle. You cannot spell hustle without STL.

What does success mean to you?
When I think of success, I think of being able to look out not only for my family but being able to give back to my community. There have been times where I’ve gone home and spoke to the future generations about turning dreams in goals and being able to execute them. Success is not just about money, the money is definitely great as you are able to not worry about certain things but I want to be able to help push my peers forward.
