Meet Shaun Leverett of Body Art by Shaun in Korea Town

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shaun Leverett.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Shaun. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was born in the heart of Los Angeles, CA. An angry child with a lot of aggression, I gravitated towards sports as a way to avoid the nuances of my neighborhood. As a teenager while visiting my brother in Okinawa, Japan I was introduced to the art of the 8 limbs called “Muay Thai” kick boxing. A few years later, I had the opportunity to visit the country of Thailand and train at a boxing camp. Not only the sport but the culture of Thailand has been part of my lifestyle ever since. In 1996, I started “Body Art by Shaun” with the idea of challenging and inspiring everyone to live a better life. I became certified as a personal trainer through the American Council on Exercise in 1997. I’ve been Health and Fitness editor for Inglewood Today and Crenshaw Today Magazines. I also maintained a monthly fitness article with both magazines entitled “Shape Up with Shaun”. Be it Muay Thai kick boxing or personal fitness training I am living my purpose. The best part of what I do is my clients. They are awesome and inspire me every day to continue to change lives.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Wow! I went through a divorce in 1998. Depressed with a young child, I shut my business down. I stepped away from fitness training for several years trying to get myself back on track. In 2008, I was involved in a motorcycle accident that delayed me from training for more than six months. In 2011, I separated my right shoulder in an automobile accident which took me away from training again. And in 2014, a woman ran a red light and struck me. I suffered two bulging disc and a hairline fracture or in the L5 of my spine. My fitness level during all these episodes help to save my life.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Body Art by Shaun – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We are a Muay Thai, boxing and personal fitness studio. We do one thing and we do it better than anyone else. We offer one on one high intensity, fun, fat burning workouts. Our clients result go beyond the cosmetics. We equip our clientele with real lifestyle changing tools that can be applied on the daily. Our one on one, personalized, high intensity, fat burning workouts get the results that big box gyms can’t deliver.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We are starting small group sessions. 4-6 people of like minds who are results driven. We will keep the group small in order to maintain that feeling of personal attention. We are planning on expanding on our location size. We just started a couples training program. Also, we would like to do more in the volunteer area (special needs, rehabilitation, elderly movement, etc.).

  • Our small group sessions are only $30 per person for the session.
