Meet Scarlet Jei Saoirse

Today we’d like to introduce you to Scarlet Jei Saoirse.

Scarlet, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’m a city girl, born and raised in Camden NJ, and always had the dream of becoming a singer. Being from a place like that, was tough on anyone who wanted more than the “Hood Life”. The odds were stacked against me tremendously. But I was such an imaginative young girl. So vibrant and full of life. No matter how poor I was, how bad my neighborhood was, no matter who believed in me or not, I felt strongly connected to my dream. I saw visions of me being someone the world adored. I did!!!! And I strongly believed in those visions…until I didn’t.

I let life beat me up and tear me down for years, until I finally got up and challenged myself to go for it. My dreams rang super loud in my head. I couldn’t take it anymore so I began to write. My first single, “Born to fly”, is about the fear that comes along with following your dreams. We spend so much time worrying about what could go wrong that we never take the time to believe what the hell could actually go right. Everything could go right! Why wouldn’t it? Like the lyrics in my song say, “Sometimes winning is not about the ending. It’s about the journey, the clarity, the fact that you can say you did it!”

Before I recorded, I was posting up some small clips of me singing on Instagram and one day I got a nice little shout out and some love from Jeannie Jones, “Ms. Kitty of the City”. She just commented that she liked my style and…I don’t know, that just did it for me. I reached out to her and pretty much asked what I needed to do and she told me to do my EP. So I did. I felt like my path was relit. Since then, I’ve been played on Seattle Wave, featured in EPR Music blog and Buzz Music and is now working on some new material. I’m learning more and more everyday about the industry, about my fans and about who I am as an artist.

Please tell us about your work.
I am a singer and songwriter but also an aspiring actress. I was one of the judges for the UCLA screen writing competition this year, I also had my first small role in an independent film, due to be released at the end of the year. And lastly, I dropped two of my own single albums entitled, “Born to fly” and “Gimme A Chance.

I’m super humbled and grateful and so proud of how far I’ve come and the strength and mental resolve I had thus far to keep going.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Nope. Not at all.

Everything happens for a reason. My experiences are unique to me and my journey. Because of my setbacks, I’ve gained knowledge and experience. I am able to relate to people from all walks of life and is able to interact with love and conviction. I feel like I’ve developed a level of understanding that will benefit me in the future and I also feel like I understand better, the connection between gaining and losing and why this duality is important to personal and spiritual growth. I am grateful for it all.
