Meet Richard Castaneda of Cass Tours

Today we’d like to introduce you to Richard Castaneda.

Richard, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Myself, my wife and my oldest daughter Rauna Campbell started the company in 1991 targeting fishing travel to Southern Baja California from Loreto to La Paz, to East Cape to San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas. Our goal was to be able to package a fishing trip together as much as the fisherman needed such as including airfare, hotel and providing charter fishing boats. As our company grew we added our three other daughters Becky McCormack, Robin Driggers and Roxy Castaneda. Plus, our clientele wanted new fishing destinations so we expanded to mainland Mexico, Central America, Brazil, Alaska and Christmas Island in the South Pacific. Of course, we also now sell regular vacation packages to the Caribbean, Hawaii and cruise vacations.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
All was going well until the economy went to hell along with the Swine Flu originating in Mexico and the Mexican Narco’s went on their killing spree, due to all this we lost 50% of our business. Over the past years the business has slowly been coming back.

Please tell us about Cass Tours.
Our primary clients are fishermen wanting to travel to some great fishing destination and as far as I know we are one of two companies that sell this type of travel in Southern California, fishing is our specialty. We book our clients trips as if we were going on the trip so we want to make sure all our T’s are crossed and our I’s dotted, we always want to have happy clients. We have travelled to all our destinations and made the right contacts to ensure that our clients have a hassle-free vacation. Being able to have a family business has been very rewarding in that we as a family get along great and are very close.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
No, not a thing.
