Today we’d like to introduce you to Nina Quock.
Nina, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I discovered my love for flowers and colors while exploring the Los Angeles Flower Market during my senior year of high school. My friends and I were getting ready for prom and we decided that it would be fun to make our own corsages/bouquets and boutonnieres.
While in college, I continued to create floral arrangements for friends and family doing school events and fundraisers. At the time, I never dreamed that this passion for flowers could actually turn into a business.
Fast forward a few years, I was graduating from college with a bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies and a teaching credential. I was looking forward to pursue a career as a teacher. At the same time, word had spread about my floral work and referrals came rolling in – people started inquiring about weddings. I decided that I could juggle my business and also be a teacher at the same time.
While I continued teaching, the floral business steadily grew. Initially, I was working out of my garage, meeting clients at Starbucks, and setting up my pieces at exquisite venues. However, in a short amount of time it got to a point where I could not operate out of my garage any longer.
It was also around then that my friend and I came up with the idea of bringing our two creative businesses together. Early 2016, that dream came to life and we now own a studio office in San Marino, California called Beauty & Bloom.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being an entrepreneur and owning a business, all while being a teacher, has not been easy. But seeing the smiles on my clients’ faces and feeling the love that my students have for me make it all worthwhile. I have learned a lot through this whole process and I am content to say that I love both my careers.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Beauty & Bloom – what should we know?
Beauty & Bloom – The concept came through the realization that there are very few companies that are able to provide an all-inclusive experience for any special occasion. So we created Beauty & Bloom. We specialize in hair styling, make-up, and floral design for weddings and special events.
As a company, I am most proud of our work ethic. My partners, my team, and I strive to put our clients at ease on their big day!
As an event floral designer, I meet with future brides (mostly) to discuss details for their dream wedding. We discuss theme, colors, ambience, budget, schedule, etc. and it is my goal to help bring their dream to life.
What sets my team apart from others? We are willing to go the extra mile to ensure that our clients are 100% satisfied with their experience; we also try to give back to the community. Growing up, I watched loved ones go in and out of hospitals and nursing homes. I felt the sadness and emptiness that filled those halls. So, I offer my clients a small refund if they agree to donate their centerpieces after the event is over. Beauty & Bloom arranges for those centerpieces to be delivered to a nursing home the next day. I love knowing that my floral arrangements brought joy to a bride on her big day and is also able to cheer up the elderly at the nursing home.
