Meet Ngozi Kim of GoziTV in North Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ngozi Kim.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve always been this outspoken-funny girl with a very whimsically view on life. Pursuing a career in entertainment came very natural to me, as I couldn’t see myself flourishing in any other field. I began interning at a talent agency my sophomore year in college.

From there, I started working on movie sets, doing background work, & landing stand in roles. Those roles then turned into speaking roles and more opportunities arose. I started a YouTube channel, GoziTV in 2012, & the desire to push myself further grew. I moved to Los Angeles from Austin, TX in 2017. This was the biggest leap of my life & I’m glad I took it. We’re often most afraid of actually taking the leap, but thats the easiest part!

Has it been a smooth road?
Most of my obstacles and challenges began after I started creating my own work. When GoziTV first launched in May of 2012, it was VERY smooth! At this point, the masses mainly only focused on YouTube for original video content. With this; many many eyes were on GoziTV. The algorithms were not constantly changing and there weren’t many other platforms similar to YouTube. However, this began to change rapidly. The brand experienced rapid growth in the first 2-3 years and hit a decline in viewership around 2014. Not going to lie, this was a major ego blow and creative roadblock for a few years. However, in this time, I have continued to work with other creators, audition often, & continue the good fight. Nobody really knows how the road to success is going to look. We never stopped creating though & don’t plan on it…

Please tell us about GoziTV.
GoziTV is a channel where creativity lives. Sketch comedy is our main stick, but astrology, scoliosis awareness, and interviews on dream chasing can also be found on the channel. GoziTV was started in 2012 before my last semester at UTSA (University of Texas at San Antonio) Being an actress & working in the entertainment industry was something I knew I would be doing, but content creation was a whole new world. On GoziTV, I am able to express myself freely while bringing my insane visions to life. Being a first-generation Nigerian here in the US definitely helps play a part in my creative vision. Always pulling from personal experiences is something that is present in the content. Whether its a sketch on “Growing Up Nigerian” or an ‘Old Hollywood’ parody, we explore characters to the fullest on GoziTV. Tapping into multiple aspects of who I am, allows GoziTV to flourish with no creative limits!

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I can’t really say where I see the industry going in 5-10 years I’ve been creating content for seven years out of this decade & have no idea how we even got here! It’s hard to call it because this industry changes extremely fast & constantly. For myself, I do plan on continuing to work across multiple platforms & inspiring folks to create! I can predict that my ideas will continue to grow along with any opportunities presented.
