Today we’d like to introduce you to Nemuel DePaula.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Nemuel. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
LENITA started with my desire to merge all things design into one platform. Aside from florals, I design art books and work on several creative projects, the flower truck is an extension of my design world. Flowers are the driving force of LENITA BY GRITA, but we’re always bringing other elements to compliment them; from underground magazines to candles made by local artists, the goal is to curate an overall design experience when stopping by the flower truck.
We still have a long way to go from our start in 2017, but we got to where we are today by working non-stop, experimenting with anything that comes our way and by the support of our neighborhood. Since day one, LENITA’s mission has been to celebrate and highlight all the incredible people that make Los Angeles such a unique compound, I hope we to continue this statement for years to come.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
This has not been a smooth road, every step is a bump. Trial and error has for sure been our best friend, but it took time to appreciate it. The challenges are ongoing, from dealing with temporary parking regulations that affect our scheduled pop-up, to mechanical issues. But the difference now is that we have been on similar grounds before, making the struggles a bit smoother to overcome.
LENITA BY GRITA – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
LENITA BY GRITA is a flower truck based in the Downtown Arts District that pops-up on the weekends offering unique blooms and design items. Saturdays, the flower truck travels to surrounding neighborhoods and Sundays are spent at home, parked in front of Alchemy Works (826 E 3rd St).
I’m so proud of the community LENITA is slowly building. Yes, at the end of the day we’re a retail project that depends on sales in order to keep going, but it goes beyond that. We work with local farmers, artists and shops to together celebrate one another and push our neighborhoods forward.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me, needs to be broken down. We’re so used to seeing it as one big piece that in my point of view, it becomes unachievable. And that’s my current goal, to achieve pieces of success that eventually build something grand. These pieces range from seeing someone walk away with a smile on their face, to selling out for the day or special collaborations. It’s about identifying what will enrich our brand in every aspect possible.
- Blooms range from $17-$47
