Meet Kelly Yvonne of The Choreography House in North Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Yvonne.

Kelly, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
In 2003, I moved to Los Angeles to pursue dance professionally. An unfortunate injury led me into early dance retirement and I switched my focus to the behind-the-scenes aspects of production. During this time, I learned about choreography, staging, set design, marketing/PR and much more! All elements that would later help fuel my pole career.

I attended a performance recital at a pole studio in 2009 and decided to enroll shortly thereafter. With production experience under my belt, that same year I created ‘Girl Next Door’ to showcase artistic pole dance in a theater setting. The Choreography House, a pole dance performance academy, was created in 2011 to serve as a home to the cast of Girl Next Door and develop high-level pole talent. The third pole dance show SEVEN was created in 2013 to demonstrate a lighter, naughtier side of pole dance entertainment.

Throughout my pole career, I coached and choreographed for celebrity clients, such as Serena Williams, FKA Twigs, Rico Love and Mya. Through these relationships, I began to create pole content for music videos, TV/film, and other entertainment outlets. Today you can see my pole dance choreography in the ‘Cellophane’ music video by FKA Twigs and the ‘Fukk Sleep’ music video by ASAP Rocky & FKA Twigs.

Pole Dance has taken me around the globe and provided the privilege of exploring new cultures through dance. I am able to incorporate these experiences into my work and develop pole choreography that continues to push various creative boundaries. To that end, I am so grateful for a career exploring and creating 3-dimensional movement!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like all relationships, my career has had the highest of highs as well as the lowest moments of my life. What I can appreciate about the struggles along the way are the lessons and gained perspective. Each bump in the road changed my course slightly or helped me expand my understanding of the world.

The Choreography House – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
The Choreography House is a Pole Dance Training Facility located in North Hollywood, CA. It is the first Pole Fitness Alliance (PFA) Registered Training Facility in North America and was awarded the title “Studio of the Year” by the International Pole Dance Fitness Association in 2013. Each week, Dancers select from a variety of Classes and Specialty Workshops to help reach their Pole Dance Fitness and Performance Goals.

The Choreography House is known for its structured, varied curriculum. In addition to Pole Dance, the studio provides classes in Strength Training, Stretch and Flexibility, Heels Choreography, Competition Prep, and Exotic Floorwork. Dancers may select classes in a choose-your-own-adventure approach or our Staff can customize a weekly, training regime.

You can find The Choreography House Faculty and Students performing in SEVEN and Girl Next Door productions throughout the year.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment of my career so far would be watching FKA Twigs perform her pole routine in the Magdalene Tour in May 2019. The premiere of the Cellophane music video is definitely in second place!
