Today we’d like to introduce you to Kage Spatz.
Kage, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Slinging beanie babies to convenience store owners in bulk at 16 years old was my first taste of business and I was really good at it. At the time, Entrepreneurship wasn’t even a blip on my radar. The goal was to save enough money to move from New York to California at 17. After earning a degree from Cal State Northridge at 21, I began teaching at-risk teenagers in the Van Nuys area. I promised myself I’d teach for ten years as a way to give back to the teachers who saved my life growing up, regardless of what other opportunities might arise. That didn’t mean I wouldn’t prepare for what would be next.
Whether it was grad courses at UCLA or studying strategy across several industries, I was addicted to learning. My favorite topic became poker. In fact, my first online business was based around 1-on-1 skype sessions, training people all over the world how to improve their game. In 2011, the US government essentially shut down online poker in America and my plan to shift careers was back to square one.
I decided to learn everything I could about online marketing that year and made Spacetwin official in January of 2012. Two years later, I was able to retire from teaching and have been my own boss ever since. Once I figured out how to generate more attention and authority for companies (and their executives), it was off to the races. My own personal brand also became an example of how powerful positioning can work for almost anyone.
Creating scenarios where everyone involved truly benefits is a passion of mine. As of this interview today, I have my hand in several companies, most notably MortgageAlien.com and Spacetwin.com — both born in Los Angeles.
Has it been a smooth road?
After so many surgeries as a kid that left me with a major hearing loss, being named All-County musician in 6th grade was a big win for me. I realized if I only needed one working ear to pull that off, I could accomplish many other goals that might seem crazy to myself or others.
Chronic migraines are no joke. There is a lot I go through behind the scenes but you want to know what has been the key for me? Gratitude. I’m so thankful because I know there is always someone out there with it worse. I get to learn how to be tougher than most because of it as well. It took a really long time to step into this mindset and I won’t pretend that makes it easy. I still battle and get knocked down hard some days but I always get back up with more perspective.
Entrepreneurship is an extreme rollercoaster but it’s not life or death. That being said, anyone in the game who tells you it’s always easy is lying — this life is not for everyone. Even my smaller goals have consistently been much more difficult, complicated, and take so much more time than I ever imagine. If you want a smooth ride, you likely won’t find it at the head of the ship!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Spacetwin story. Tell us more about the business.
Grow authority, increase social currency, and improve brand positioning faster with Spacetwin.
We create, publish, and promote meaningful content your target audience actually cares about. Spacetwin also connects you directly with people who matter to your overall success.
Leverage our strategy, team, network, content machine, and more — giving potential partners and clients more value for aligning with your brand. You’ll even be able to attract more influential guests to your podcast or show.
There is nothing cookie-cutter about transformation. Every service is custom to each client’s goals. Spacetwin turns down a high percentage of applications so we can’t provide a link for anyone to start today without screening them first. If you’re not a good fit, we don’t want your money.
Regardless of which of our services you choose, being a part of the Spacetwin family gives you a long-term edge as attention, algorithms, and opportunities continue to shift. What you do with your new spotlight to compound your advantage is up to you.
As a special gift for the local community, message me directly and mention VoyageLA. I’d be happy to answer some questions you might have around what you are trying to accomplish, even if you don’t have a business (this can also take careers to another level too).
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The industry of attention will always shift. Luckily for everyone who isn’t a multi-billion dollar company, the biggest budgets are not yet all-in on social media advertising. Expect the giants in every industry to catch up very soon, allocating more funds than ever to properly position their brand online. When this happens, the cost of social media ads will increase at a faster rate. If you haven’t built any brand equity by this point, now is the best time to invest in a longer game before it’s too late. In the next 5-10 years, if you don’t have a massive budget, you and your company will both need a smart brand to compete.
