Today we’d like to introduce you to Julian Dahl.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Julian. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
A few years ago, I got a camera with the intent to record YouTube videos. When I got the camera, I started shooting photos around the house of random objects. It quickly became a hobby. I would shoot photos at home, around the neighborhood, at school, travelling, etc. My photos usually consisted of landscapes, nature, patterns, and other random objects. The funny thing is, I used it, maybe twice, to record YouTube videos. After that, I pretty much forgot about YouTube.

About a year and a half ago, I started getting into portraiture, and suddenly people became my favorite thing to photograph. I do photoshoots with friends, schoolmates, actors/actresses, models, and occasionally I’ll do self-portraits.

I’ve been doing photography for almost three years now, and I haven’t gotten tired of it once. I love coming up with new ideas for photos.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Sometimes it is, but there have been a lot of ups and downs. There would be times where I don’t shoot photos for a week, either because school gets in the way, or I’m just not feeling it. I think the most challenges come from photoshoots. I tend to mess up a setting or have trouble later while editing photos. There are a lot of times where it actually goes well, and I end up happy with the results.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
Well, right now I’m just getting my feet off the ground with my business. I’m focusing more on finishing high school right now, and then I plan to fully develop my photography career. Currently, I’m being booked by a P.R. firm to shoot lifestyle photos for their clients, and occasionally I’ll get hired to shoot headshots and senior portraits.

What were you like growing up?
I’m pretty similar to how I was when I was younger. I’m very socially awkward, I have a great sense of humor (so I’m told), and I like making friends. When I was younger I used to love playing with and building LEGO. I also loved making forts in my room and drawing pictures.
