Today, we’d like to introduce you to Jonno. Jonno was introduced to us by the brilliant and talented William Pierre.
Hi Jonno, we’re so thrilled to have you sharing your story with us today. Maybe we can kick things off by having you introduce yourself to our readers? We’d love to have you go into your story and how you got to where you are today.
Hip hop has been an invaluable part of my life for the last 15 years. I didn’t truly begin my journey as an artist though until I was 19. I was a sports journalism major at the time at the University of Missouri, and pursuing commentating in particular.
I was in quite a depressive state. I reached a point where I voluntarily checked myself into a hospital. I felt deeply unhappy on a constant basis, and I wanted to construct a formula for life that would set me up for success personally and professionally.
When I left that hospital three days later, I got honest about things in my life that made me happy. Primarily, writing raps everyday. It’s been a long road since then, but I’m in a much better place now. My music has offered me an outlet for expressing the many facets of my mental being. My hope is that I can be that light for someone, as my predecessors were for me. I’m infinitely indebted to this magnificent art form for allowing me to be myself in the truest sense. What a freedom that is.
Please talk to us about your music.
Write what you know. And go out and live. Meaning do stuff that “you” would never do. For no other than reason to potentially enjoy yourself and help develop a stronger sense of self. When I’m going through spells of unsatisfactory writing, in my mind, it’s because I feel I’ve talked on everything relevant in my life at that moment in time. Create art that appeals to you. As soon as you start trying to impress, you’ve lost the pulse of what really good works are made of. Understand that you’ll throw away 90-95% of your work, but none of that time is wasted. It allows you to fully refine the remainder into something you can truly be proud of. As for myself, I’m very excited for the next chapter. I released an LP titled “LUMPSUM” in May. It’s meant to be the opening theme if you will to my upcoming debut album, “WOW.” “WOW” is an exploration into becoming a truer sense of yourself in a city of such polish and vanity as Los Angeles. “LUMPSUM” is available everywhere, and “WOW” will be as well!

William Pierre has been a great friend to us and I know you’ve got a great relationship as well. Maybe you can tell our audience a bit about William and your experience with them.
Will and I have always been aligned for many reasons, but underneath all of it we share an undying passion in our work. He’s been unbelievable as a guide in the early stages of my journey. We actually met through a mutual acquaintance during the celebrations of last year’s LA Super Bowl, and became fast friends.
I demand a great deal out of myself, and that is a double-edged sword. Will has been fantastic in getting my mind right. We actually had a heart to heart a few months ago that set me straight. It unlocked something in me. That night, I went home and recorded three of the tracks for “WOW” in one sitting. The album was finished about a week later. It was as if that talk allowed me to unabashedly believe in myself, more than what is “appropriate.” And that tremendous sense of self belief is critical for such a face forward part of the industry.
Will has done amazing things as the CEO and talent executive of Heart Of A Lion Management. But he has expanded his reach within the industry beyond his own roster. This is a guy who has a deep appreciation for the art form, and is constantly giving back to it. As well as building connections with others that share that hunger and love for music. That energy is infectious and endearing. Anyone that looks down on being truly passionate about the art form is severely misguided. So trust that instinct that good people will come
