Meet Jasmine Durhal of UoStudios in Arts District

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Durhal.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started photography about ten years ago. I am a self taught photographer from Detroit, Mi. Los Angeles wasn’t necessarily in my plans but Im glad I ended up in Lala land. I started out interning in Detroit and quickly decided to move to Chicago, where a faster pace of growth could cultivate. I lived in Chicago for five years, developing my work and styles as an artist collaborating with so many amazing people in the city. Ive been in LA 3 years now and it has been tough but very rewarding Ive found good things come when effort and intention is enforced. Im looking forward to what’s to come. Los Angeles opened the doors to working with larger brands and companies like Nike, VSCO and Essence Magazine. Things I would dream of back in Detroit. Ive been blessed enough to even open my own photography studio for rental (UoStudios). The studio is powered by women and welcoming female photographer into space. Ive worked in a lot of studio in the past so owning one is a bit surreal. Things seem to really unfold here in the city of angels.

Has it been a smooth road?
It hasn’t been the smoothest rode but it also hasn’t been impossible. I believe my journey is forever unfolding and I’m always going to be climbing a new challenge, especially in my industry as of which is male dominated. However, Ive learned more from the challenges I’ve encountered thus far than anything. My biggest struggle as lately has been adjusting to a new room, new level. This year I was invited to assist larger sets and it can be a bit intimidating at first. Especially not having that kind of access previously, however that does not define your ability to create greatness within that space. I have to remind myself often that I am capable of creating in unfamiliar spaces because this is what I worked for this is who I am.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with UoStudios – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am Jassieuo known for my bold, colorful very striking photography. I specialize in portraits and fashion photography. I am most proud of the cohesive development of my work. I believe my particular aesthetic stands out from most it uniquely holds its own power. I also own UoStudios which just opened this past July a photography/videography studio open for hourly rental powered by myself and other amazing women. What sets me apart from most photographers I think is my concept of just being in my own lane. I admire the color and I continue to create with it in innovative ways. I also don’t find myself trying to keep up with the latest trends in photography its a lot of them currently and I prefer to stand in what resonates with me as an artist.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I love about Los Angeles is number one the weather, I come from the cold so that will always be number one on my list. I also really admire the endless opportunities here I feel like just when you feel you’ve hit a wall here something magical unfolds. What I least like about the city is probably the Isolation aspect, I feel you can get really occupied with self here. Which isn’t a bad thing; however, it’s all about balance.
