Meet Holly Gray of Anything But Gray Events in Studio City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Holly Gray.

Holly, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’m an L.A native. Yes, we do exist! I am honest, passionate, straightforward, hardworking, and yes, a jazzy weirdo. Sequins and sunshine are in my DNA. My recipe for event awesomeness has been developed over 3 decades: my mother, Trilby, was a successful wedding and event planner so I grew up in the biz. On top of that, I have 18 years of stage management and improv comedy training, a tour of duty in culinary school and time in the trenches of the hospitality field. With a dash of sass, a hearty laugh and a splash of bright pink lipstick there you have it! ANYTHING but Gray.

Has it been a smooth road?
Smooth? Smooth is for peanut butter and scotch! Being a business owner is not easy. I relate it to exercise. If you want to fit into those pants, you have to work at it every day! I jest but truthfully after 6 years, I learn something new everyday. The biggest struggle over the years was finding the right clients. Those clients that make you smile from ear to ear and remind you in their actions everyday why you love your job so darn much! Finding those clients makes every struggle so worthwhile!

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Anything but Gray Events couples… Think outside the box, dreams big and live life to the fullest. They aren’t looking for the “typical” but rather the “totally us.” They are free-spirited individuals who thrive on big personality, bold designs and personal self-expression. Passion and confidence run through their veins and are always authentically themselves. Our couples understand how important hospitality and unique experiences are to their guests and in their own lives. They love animals, a witty sitcom, champagne brunch and always tip their servers well. They enjoy the finer things in life but still love a late night Target run. Our couples value and appreciate people’s time, energy and skills. They are gourmet foodies at heart but will never say no to a Costco hot dog with all the toppings! They sing the loudest at karaoke, tell pun jokes at will and are the last ones to leave the dance floor. They envision their wedding as way to express who they are as couple while showcasing their kick ass love to family and friends in a one-of-a-kind way.

I specialize in designing and planning bold, colorful, and imaginative wedding celebrations for amazingly creative couples. I believe that more is more and less is just … BORING.

I am NOT your average wedding planner. I don’t yell, wear all black or carry a clipboard. I believe kindness is key and being a bitch is never needed! I’m a snazzy extrovert with a get-it-done-and-make-it-look-easy strategy and a you-do-you-boo attitude. I am NOT trying to be the wedding planner for everyone. I want couples to look at my work and either say, “She is the ONE” or “WTF! No way, Jose!” Either option is perfectly acceptable. I have three Boston terriers, a very tall German boyfriend named Sebastian and for the life of me, cannot keep a houseplant alive. I love La Croix, selfies and Hanson. Judge me not. I told you: goofball and honest to a fault. That’s me, baby!

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
LA is the perfect backdrop to the kind of events I design. They are full of color, diversity, love and creativity. They are a perfect representations of the unique melting pot that is this city of angels. That being said, LA is challenging. The wedding industry is very saturated here. It is all about finding your niche and standing out in the crowd with whatever you do best. You need a thick skin and a positive attitude to succeed here.
