Today we’d like to introduce you to Cerise Castle.
Hi Cerise, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I grew up in the LA area and always knew I wanted to live here. I took some time to live away from Los Angeles in college when I attended school in Boston. I made my way back to the city in 2014 and began freelance writing.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s never easy being a woman of color in media, or anywhere for that matter.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Journalism. I am currently finishing up the first-ever historical account of gangs in the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department: https://knock-la.com/tradition-of-violence-lasd-gang-history/.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
The landscape. I don’t like how people from all over the world move to our lovely city and don’t engage with our civic issues.
