Today we’d like to introduce you to Cassie Marin.
Cassie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’m 23 years old, I have been pursuing my lifelong dream of creating music and performing since I was four years old. I started by playing the piano, which was my first instrument aside from my singing voice. I began writing compositions at age seven and slowly found myself lost in my imagination on a regular basis. (Although my first dream was to make it as an Olympic gymnast, after a serious injury at age 13, I had to stop training altogether.)
This turned my full focus on my music and writing. I was always moving from place to place with my parents, in and out of school, homeschooled, etc. We moved 15 times by the time I was in high school. I had a difficult time being social most of the time, I’d avoid parties to write songs alone in my room.
I began producing music in 2013, which was one of the hardest transitions for me as a songwriter. I was always told by male producers I’d worked with in the past years, “you already write your own songs, there’s no need for you to learn to produce! It’s so much work!” and for a while, I really believed them. I struggled so much on my journey learning to produce music.
The software was tedious and difficult to memorize at first, and all I could hear were those voices in my head telling me I wasn’t good enough or smart enough, but one day I just got rid of all those voices by replacing them with my own voice of encouragement.
Producing my own music has been such an incredible journey; it’s unlike anything else to be in full control of the art you’re creating. I am so grateful for the way things unfolded before me and my learning experiences along the way. I currently live in Los Angeles, modeling and working on my upcoming summer release.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Some of my biggest obstacles along the way was dealing with an array of sexual harassment, overcoming some serious health issues on my behalf and managing a healthy relationship with family and friends along this emotional journey.
We’d love to hear more about what you do.
I think what sets me apart from others is my blatant honesty as well as my unique eye for things.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I could do something differently, it would be not to hold back as much as I did out of fear.
