Today we’d like to introduce you to Carrie Goyette.
Carrie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
We planned our entire wedding in 6 months so that we could save money, make it our own, and have a honeymoon before I started into my next teaching year. My husband is very engineer-minded and was adamant that he could make his own photo booth instead of renting one for around $1000. Originally that was all we thought it would be used for. Perhaps maybe let friends borrow it here and there. But after our wedding, where the line was NON-STOP for the photo booth, and people were shocked that it was homemade, we decided it could be so much more. He already has a Sound and Video Business (Goyette Sound and Video) so we decided to improve upon our original design, making it even more user-friendly, fast, and fun as a great addition to his already thriving business. It works out perfectly because I do all the right brained activities such as create the photo templates, buy themed props, and handle social media accounts. While my husband is left-brained and researches the software, hooks up all the equipment, and makes sure the lighting is correct. We are slowly getting clients through word of mouth or through our business pages, but we would love to subsidize my former teaching salary with photo booth gigs instead so that I can have a more flexible schedule to be a stay-at-home wife and mother. That’s the ultimate goal. And we just happen to love what we do because it makes people happy!
Has it been a smooth road?
Our main struggle was trying to get more people to hear about us without spending too much money on Google or Yelp Advertising packages. Even though we have social media accounts, Yelp for business owners, and our own webpage, some of them were not activated or showing us on the first page for months, so it made for a slow start. Most of our clients are friends of friends. We love and appreciate referrals! Every client we’ve had has been more than happy with the results, so we hope that word spreads via old-fashioned word-of-mouth so that more and more people will check us out. Just from a couple 5 star reviews on Yelp, we’ve already shot from the 4th page to the 1st page, so hopefully our name will be making an entrance into people’s lives soon!
So, let’s switch gears a bit and go into the All Set Photo Booths story. Tell us more about the business.
We specialize in open- air photo booths rentals. I think what sets us apart is that we don’t half-ass the work or farm it out to a high schooler to run (like other bigger companies do). My husband and I go out on every gig ourselves and personalize the event for the theme of the party. Wizard of Oz theme? We’ll bring the Ruby Slippers. Vegas themed? We got drinks and dice. The units itself are all homemade as well, so it doesn’t look like your run of the mill black and silver Industrial box. It’s more personal and homemade which we hope people appreciate. It’s really just a lot of fun for everyone involved.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
People are still into photo booths as much now as they were 5 years ago, so we’re hoping the interest is still there in the near future. The good news is that we are young and keep up with technology. So as trends evolve, so will we. We’ve already upgraded to touch-screen since most guests are accustomed to that in their daily lives, and we continue to provide social media options that a lot of guests like to utilize.
